I really dislike the NHL All-Star game. Why does every team need an All-Star? Does Tom Wilson and Washington or Anahiem really deserve an All-Star appearance? Or Brady from Ottawa. Yeah theyre good players.....but All-Stars? For me, being a big NBA guy, you can reference a players All-Star appearances as an accolade and evidence they were one of the best 24 (give or take with injury replacements) players in the league and generally on one of the better teams in the league. The NHL just awards every team with an All-Star, it feels kinda participation medal-ish. They should make it an achievement to make the All-Star game, something that can go on a players resume and count for something. The NHL doesnt have a dunk contest (even though the dunk contests better days are long over and the 3pt contest has become the main event for most people). I thought the NBA has done a really good job making it the best weekend possible, by coming up with creative ideas to make the game meaningful and as competitive as you can given the fact that its a game for fun. I think the NHL could do a lot more to make All-Star weekend more meaningful and fun.
