Marner's agent fucked his life in TO. Marner has great production but it wasn't worth anything over 9.5-10 million per season. If his agent wasn't such a greedy bastard Mitch wouldn't be feeling the type of heat he's getting. Not making it past the 1st round of the playoffs and thinking you're worth the same amount of money as Matthews will turn the TO fanbase sour as well. 11 million initial offer by Dubas was more then generous

They love him in the season, but his style of play is not suited for the playoffs. His game doesn't have that edge like a marchand, point, pastrnak, kucherov have. You gotta play that tough and physical style at times to win playoff games.

I thought the reason Marner asked for that much is because that's how much Matthew's was getting and he saw himself just as good as Matthew's. Marner is a well rounded player with great team presence but the pressure does get to him. People also have to realise Matthew's didnt score either post season. There are other things to improve on not just with Marner.

I think in Marners case, it was more of a situation where he has yet to truly prove himself. To be asking for a ridiculous number like what he was asking for just came across as selfish. Putting yourself before your town and team is never a good look, no matter how talented you are.

As much as marner gets hate on his playoff performance. I believe that playoff hockey relies on 1. Goalies 2. Defensive core 3. Center depth 4. Wingers. Marner is a winger so he technically can't have a huge impact like a goalie, top Dman, #1 center can have. Their biggest flaw was paying a winger 11 mill. Those numbers are only given to superstars who are #1 Center, or top Dman. For a goalie, its a tad bit too high

If you ever do a part 4 you should that a look at Patrice Brisebois. It's probably the Habs player that received the most hatred that I've personally seen play. I don't remember the exact year but there was a time during the 2000s when that guy couldn't touch the puck without being booed by the fans. It was painful to watch TBH.

As a habs fan only reason Carey Price gets such hate because that silly contract but at least Price won the Hart Memorial Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, Vezina Trophy and William M. Jennings Trophy and became the first player to win all four awards in the same season. Price won gold medals with the Olympics Winter Games in Sochi and the World Cup of Hockey before signing that crazy contract !

I mean no goals in 18 playoff games, SIX delay of game penalties in the playoffs in the last 3 years of so. Incredible talent in the regular season but he’s making no game off money. He has to figure out how to play in the playoffs. He looked terrified in the playoffs this year. For the contact he got which is an overpayment by about 2 million, he deserves the criticism. I’m a massive leafs fan in saying this too. He doesn’t deserve people outside the rink harassing him about it in his daily life however. I also hate when players are harassed online after a game too, no need for it.
