Aww yeah... I remember playing this on low volume many late nights trying not to wake my parents up downstairs, then in the daytime playing with friends writing down the scores on paper, along with collecting hockey cards and all of that, memorizing players numbers and stats, creating our own NHL magazines... Hockey fever in the 90's was special... Thanks for the upload!

I love how NHL 96' made major improvements, great soundtrack and the sound effects sounded better and added the voices in referees.

I love all of the classic organ music in this game. I remember storm days home from school playing all day with my older brother. Great nostalgia here. Thanks for upload!

Everybody speak about nhl 93 and 94 , but to me this was by far the greatest. Smoother and faster gameplay , music after home goals , beginning of periods , injuries , voice when taking penalties , visually more appealing , better menus (with the best music) , practice mode with a many players as you want , etc... Simply so much upgrades.

So recently, I acquired my Uncle's SNES with all of his games. There were some good ones like Super Mario World, Final Fight, F-Zero, U.N. Squadron, but he had TONS of sports games. Like John Madden Football (back when John Madden was actually on the cover) and NHL. I decided to try NHL 96 and was pleasantly surprised to hear that one song from Space Jam that I don't know the name of on the title screen, and was thinking, "Space Jam is a basketball movie. So why is this in a hockey game?" But whatever, I thought it was funny.

The song is from 2 Unlimited. That summer my buddy shipped a VHS tape with a bunch of NHL 94 and 95 gameplay goals and hits he recorded to EA Sports. He added that song to it and we were howling when we bought the game and heard that song as the intro. True story. 😂

They certainly improved the sound quality. I didn't like '95 because the sound effects sounded compressed, but this one they really improved this game not just on sound and graphics, but on game play as well. :)

There was a hack. Go straight towards the goalie and quickly turn 45 degrees left or right just before you get to the blue goalie area and shoot. 100% a goal everytime

Normally, I prefer all the 16 bit NHL games on the Sega Genesis, but for some reason, I find I'm better at the SNES version of 96. Still great on either system, but I think the SNES version is a bit better for this iteration of the game.
