Oliers Management for at least a DECADE has thought you can win a Cup by offense only. They haven't figured it out, you can't. You take a lot of cap money for an average defenseman in Nurse and the "Big Two", you just aren't going to have the bucks you need for another couple of QUALITY defenseman. McDavid only wins a Cup when he goes to another team. I would bet the farm that when his contract is up, he leaves for LESS money to go to a team where he feels he can win a Cup that year or the next year.

He looked fine to me. He was tied for the team lead in hits while playing only 3:30. The Oilers could have made more use of his energy and intensity. Instead they play Yamamoto for 12:00 and all he does is take a stupid penalty and get pushed around all over the ice. Woodcroft’s favourites (Yamamoto and Bouchard) will not win this series.

I just made a post stating the same you are correct. I've been so hard on Nurse in the past I'll be the first to admit it but wow this opened my eyes tonight to how much he was missed in a game. Defense was bad but so were Yamamoto, Skinner, Kane Nuge etc. Nurse is great at trapping the pack in our end and making good plays to get it out so when we were up 2-1 I could feel a bad shift coming cause without Nurse we were struggling to get the puck out the way Nurse and his linemate Ceci normally do....

What about the CRAP call in the second period with the ref making the call from the blue line and not seeing Eichel had hold of Broberg's stick----Vegas ends up with a 5 on 3 and scores twice. The second referee was right on top of the play and didn't call either one. I wouldn't call it a great series, some of these Vegas/Oilers games have been blow outs.

Yeah they really aren’t. McDavid has 7 points 5v5 this playoffs and only 82 points 5v5 in the regular season. Their best player only shows up when they have a powerplay. Works okay in the regular season when everything’s called, but each year so far it’s caught up with them in the playoffs, they’re lucky the refs have been calling as much as they have been or LA would’ve taken care of them

I’m a Vegas fan and think there is still plenty of series left. As a Canadian I have to also root for the last team in the playoffs. Vegas is a deep team, but as we have seen the Edmonton advantage is in capitalizing on penalties and mistakes. A desperate McJesus and Draisatl will be epic to watch next game. Good luck & cheers

It's easy to go in for a pulled goalie. There's no pressure. I don't trust Campbell to handle the pressure of starting. When he struggles, it's mental. I would be worried about him letting in a bad goal or two and costing them the series in an elimination game. And imo, Skinner hasn't cost them a game. He hasn't let in any bad goals. He hasn't always made the extra save they could have used, but he's been solid. He's also young. I expect him to continue getting better.

Two players account for an astonishing 129 power play points > *39%* of the teams total goal output while on the other hand the Knights top 2 regular season scorers account for only 29 PP points all season > *10%* (Jack Eichel & Chandler Stephenson) So to sum it up the Oilers stink in 5 on 5 when your only dependent on one line in 5 on 5 situations. Huge difference in GOALS against also in 5 on 5 .. What the hell is the other ref doing making the call from the blue line?! The ref behind the net was in the same camera frame as the two players---so the ref at the blue line should have been able to see his partner was right there on the play and didn't call either player.

Skinner got beat on good goals, but all could have been stopped or contested. He’s on the goal line or 1 foot out for all goals. Need to be on top of crease or an extra foot for point shots. Stones first goal was tough, but why not poke check to disrupt his move. Stone is looking down entire time. Goalies are better than ever, but there is not much creativity anymore. They generally play the same. Use your stick and challenge shooters. Basic concepts. High save % goalies at very least operate at top of crease

In fairness to him, that first goal he was at the top of the crease and Eichel spun him like a top, which is apparently not goaltender interference, so I can see him being hesitant to got near the edge of his crease after that

Such a piss off, then had to watch the post game till they finally announced they where keeping the post game on one channel and switching the others. Probably true, but Canes/Florida/Dallas are from large areas that have big populations. So you might get the whole southeast watching Canes/Florida. Dallas could bring in the whole Southwest. Canada won't watch much but the US Northeast might. So you never know.

Oilers built for the powerplay. They can't play 5-on-5. Refs will make sure Vegas visits the box at least 6 times next game. This serious will go the distance. Still to be seen if the refs will let Game 7 play out without interference or if the thumb will be on the scales for McDavid.

@Michel Lauzon Were you asleep in the second period when the ref makes a call from the blue line on a play behind the net? Vegas ends up with a 5 on 3 and scores twice. The second referee was right on top of the play and didn't call Broberg or Eichel. At the break, Hrudey thought it was a bad call and thought both players should have been penalized.

Think Skinner has that Vanacek disease of being great during the regular season but then being hot garbage in the postseason. It's do or die Edmonton, take a risk on Campbell, because ngl the special teams, offense and defense of the Oilers have really masked Skinner's mediocre play. In his defense, however, goals 2 and 3 weren't really his fault, Stone from a foot away in front of the net and McDavid's skate deflecting the puck wasn't really anything he could do.

The puck found the one tiny hole it could have gotten through. Sometimes you just have bad luck. That tuck goes in like 1/20 times. If those two are the only "bad" goals you can think of, then I'd say he's doing a pretty good job.

@@marshallmykietyshyn4973 that failed post seal goal against the Kings happened multiple times and cost the Oilers a couple games against the Kings. They were routine plays. He's been beaten high glove side over 13+ times this postseason. Postseason success means having your goalie steal you one every once in a while. Skinner has the done that once and that was game 6 against LA, other then that game he has been meh. He has one of the worst GAA's and SV%'s amongst all postseason starters. I'll agree with you that bad luck happens and obviously it isn't going to be a shutout or 2 goals against every game but you would also have to concede that it's bad luck when it happens here and there, but it's a goaltending problem when your starter has an .890 and a 3.52 in 11 games which is the worst statistics amongst remaining goalies.

Skinner hasn't made the extra save when they could have used it, but he hasn't been hot garbage, which is what you said originally. And I personally don't trust Campbell not to let in the actual bad goals (which I still say Skinner has not let in), costing the Oilers a game. In this case, that would cost them the series.

Wow I'll be the first to admit I was really hard on Nurse back before Christmas when he was playing sloppy but tonight really showed how important he is tonight in his absence once we were up 2-1. Reffing has been very very poor in this series on both sides but wow they really messed this game up with some brutal calls. In the end this loss is the Oilers fault though. Skinner looked shaky, Nuge looks lost, Yamamoto was a mess getting thrown around like a doll, Kane has been invisible, Bouchard is missing a lot of his point shots and all of a sudden Draisaitl fell asleep. With the power play opportunities we did get tonight we should have had 2 goals on that 5 minute major. I am going to chalk this game up to messy all around by the majority of the team and some crummy reffing. Oilers are good enough to win 2 straight still and with Nurse coming back next game I'm hoping we blow them out back in Edmonton and then fight to the bloody end game 7 in Vegas. Majority of the analysts predicted this would go to 7 games anyways so I have faith the Oil will win the next in spectacular fashion!! Just a sad loss tonight and that Broburg call was pretty lame.....

Bouchard though I can let him off the hook for some of his dumb plays if he keeps contributing with those Bouch bombs and he is young and I believe he will be great in the next few years but hell, Yamamoto though I agree he's abysmal. ​@@ianc643 thanks dude. Yah I'm a lifelong Oilers fan, 46 years. I try not to sugar coat or just blame the refs all the time. Oilers lost this game as it was truly winnable. They beat themselves. After they only got one goal on that 5 minute major and without Nurse, I had a bad feeling they would get hemmed in their zone a lot and lose the puck in transition often tonight which indeed was the dagger. Noone else stepped up either. We need a hero for nights when Mcdavid or Draisaitl get cold but right now Nuge, Kane, Foegle, Mcleod, Yamamoto, Bouchard have been cold.
