Svechnikov was already falling by the time Reilly's stick got involved. That's why they didn't call it. On the other hand, I can't believe they weren't going to call a penalty on the Islanders for that blatant trip right before the Canes' first goal.

The Isles lost to the Bruins in OT last week because Boston tied with 3.00 minutes left. After a clear trip was missed in the corner. It happens. It happened very early in this game. The Canes lost because their goalies are cheeks.

Agree. I'm an Isles fan and what I notice from a lot of people is this notion that goalies aren't part of a team. It's as if they're just this stand-alone part of the game that doesn't reflect on the team as a whole. Goalies count. Having better goaltending is similar to a baseball team with great pitching. It's about run and goal prevention.

Isles are built for the playoffs. Don't be surprised if they go to final four or beyond this year with a bit of luck. They have the team to beat anyone and once they get their defense players back will be stronger than ever.

Team still is under awful leadership. They don't know how to start or end a period under Lane Lambert. PK is dreadful and can't hit the net either in the shootout or when it's vacated. Without Sorokin and Varlamov, they're in last place.

Even if it was missed the Isles gave up a late tying goal to the Bruins last week in a game they would lose in OT on a clear missed tripping call. It happens. At least it was early in the game.

I still think his job is going to be on the line pretty soon. Last year many "experts" including Gretzky picked them as Cup winner 2 years ago. They never make it too the finals. He may make it thru the season. But team will be gone quickly in playoffs again and that may be the end of him in Carolina.
