I remember a few yrs ago when these teams played in the SCF the games were super close. It was a lot more competitive than the 4-1 series victory by LA would suggest.

@@Ck69420 calls in the third favoring the kings? are you kidding? the first two periods had five penalties with four of them against la, and all five penalties were soft. a couple make ups in the third didn’t change anything, because they still ended up giving the rangers a power play in the third when it should’ve been evened up. if la got the same treatment the rangers got them this game would’ve been tied going into the third. terrible offloading as usual.

When i was a teenager, it was Mike Richter. Then Hank in recent years followed by Igor. Now one of my other favourite goalies of all time, Jonathan Quick, is wearing the colours of my beloved New York Rangers and still playing like a god. As a die-hard Rangers supporter and goaltender myself, i truly feel so privileged to watch these icons play for my team. LGR 💙💙🤍🤍❤❤

it was night and day for the rangers compared to last night; played a thousand times better and looked much sharper. i’m not worrying about 7 total losses in nearly two months but i’d love to see them hold onto leads like this more often going forward. my only real complaint is i wish they would play as well for igor as they have been for quick. it’s true shesty hasn’t been himself lately but he’ll come out of his slump in due time and until then the team has to help him out more than they have been. other than that i’m thrilled with how this season’s started and can’t wait to see what happens come april-june 👀 LGR!!!

soft penalties all game against both teams. only a few legit penalties in the entire game. referees just love to dictate who wins and loses, instead of letting the two teams play, and call an actual game affecting penalty when it’s needed.

This game just had some questionable calls then it got intense between the two best teams in the standings; think the refs tried to control it. Kings got too aggressive with whacking Quick in front. That boiled over. But the two misconducts made no sense.

@@Harrison_Hollers these refs have made other controversial calls this season and there are calls for the nhlpa to review them, it’s not a stretch. you don’t get double minor for lightly knocking a guys helmet off, and NY got a high stick on a follow through….that’s simply not a penalty in the rule book. Along with countless others. Even the announcers were saying that, watch the whole game before replying.

Honestly, those first two periods could’ve had zero penalties, and no one would’ve bat an eye. Obviously, in the 3rd period things got a *lot* more scrummy, but even then, LA ended up getting the short end of the stick on the calls. I just wish this game could’ve been played between the two great teams, and not with the Referees dictating the pace of play. Makes me feel ashamed to be a fan of this sport.

I have to agree. Poor officiating isn’t anything new in the NHL. Can’t do anything about it now. The Kings should’ve had the two points yesterday, and this game would’ve been much closer of the referees did their jobs properly. I’m not sure if the Kings would’ve won, but it would’ve been close, and far more respectable between the two teams, because like you said, these are two great teams, and a great game like this shouldn’t be tarnished by the referees.

In short, we haven't been able to play the Rangers since the Stanley Cup win, we're bad in the sense...we make the same mistakes on defense...the offense is lousy and when we have pressure or make a great offense, we're stopped by the excellent Jonathan Quick...I think we're tired and we don't have the passion for the game in defense or in attack... on the Rangers side, you can see how hungry they are and I play with a calm head, that's why they deserve the first place

Both teams have done Retools since then; Rangers have had high end goaltending. Probably biggest difference? Henrik, to Georgiev, to Igor is not bad at all. Talbot entered the league with the Rangers too!

He slashed Quick after Byfield was just penalized for that. Then Lafreniere cross checked him back. The additional 2 was for Kempe knocking Lafs helmet off right in front of the ref! The Kings got a free PP with the Panarin high sticking; not a penalty on a shot!

I'm not going to talk about or worry about refs. Contending teams get over that because they have to. What I'm more interested in is how the Kings respond after these two losses. They responded just fine after the Washington loss. This could be the adversity we're looking for. TBH we can let the NYRs of the world win the President's Trophies of the world. We're looking for something else.

Agreed. I think it’s just fatigue. LA was obviously playing shorthanded for most of the game. Both on the ice and on the bench. The referees were terrible, but it’s hard to say who would’ve won even if they were amicable. LA will be fine. I just hope the NHL does something about the horrible officiating. Doubt it though. They haven’t addressed it before, so why would they now?

So Kings 11 games winning streak on the roads are over. They ran out of gas. Now they go back home. How did Quick get 10 mins misconduct. Kings lost 4-1. Doh!

Players on both sides were mixing it up and penalties got called. They never announced the misconducts but those don’t result in PPs. 8-6 in PPs. The worst call against the rangers was Panarin’s high sticking; he was shooting so follow through doesn’t count as a penalty.
