Oettinger had a .914 save percentage during the regular season and a 2.53 GAA. That’s no where close to what he his doing during the playoffs right now. If not for Oettinger Dallas would be down 3-1 or have gotten swept. Don’t act like Oettinger has been playing like this all season. He has a .960 save percentage through 4 games. That’s not even close to his regular season numbers.

I remember watching him during the 2018 World Juniors bronze medal game and remember thinking that with a bit of work, he would be a great NHL goalie.
@xmarine73
@xmarine73 2 жыл бұрын
@@tornado7205 sure he's stepped it up in the playoffs... but his regular season numbers are strong. They are even stronger when considering it was his first full NHL season as a starter. His numbers after 4 playoff games is down from his numbers after game 2, though. Point is you're looking at a full season of stats vs just 4 well played playoff games. I'd bet you could find similar stats during a well played 4 game span during the season. I'd be curious to see what his stats look like after two rounds, should they advance. Regardless, he's been a beast through four! Heck, all season!
@tornado7205
@tornado7205 2 жыл бұрын
@@xmarine73 oh for sure. I’m a huge Oettinger fan and was hoping he would beat out Holtby as I’m not a big fan of his. I used the 4 games because he had unquestionably been the best goalie in the playoffs so far. Markstrom is close but he isn’t facing near the same chances Oettinger is. My main point was that nobody would have believed you if you said Oettinger was going to be the best goalie (over Markstrom, Shesterkin, Vasilevsky, etc) so far in the playoffs. A .960 save percentage over 4 games is insane, and nobody would have predicted any goalie to be playing like that. So it’s not that people “weren’t listening” like the original post said, it’s that he was a good goalie that everyone knew about that has somehow became one of the biggest talking points in the league.

Rule 55.1 “Hooking is the act of using the stick in a manner that enables a player to restrain an opponent. When a player is checking another in such a way that there is only stick-to-stick contact, such action is not to be penalized as hooking.” Johnny didn’t get restrained in any way shape or form. There is a very slight argument to say that it was a slash because the toe of the Dallas players stick tapped Johnny’s glove but even that is a stretch. It wasn’t a soft call, it was just a bad one. It was just a stick lift and it should not have been called a penalty let alone a penalty shot.

Hooking is the act of using the stick in a manner that enables a player or goalkeeper to restrain an opponent. ...hooking shall be assessed to any player or goalkeeper who uses the shaft of the stick above the upper hand to hold or hook an opponent. Now I ask you Steve, what part of that play showed evidence of this? He didn't restrain, he didn't pull, he didn't hold the opponents stick with his stick. That was not hooking on a breakaway... Not by the definition of hooking in the official NHL rulebook... I showed my work, and it was a soft, bad call. P.S. This is not biased in any way.
