the call on grier there was unnecessary. sabres rotated captain between briere and drury that year and the A between grier and 2 others (escapes me who) just because it’s not on his sweater that game doesn’t mean he had to be treated like that.

Aw, I love that last clip, I'm always saying to my sister as we watch games...if the guy doesn't have a C or and A on the sweater, he needs to STFU and move on.
@darthollpheist11564 жыл бұрын
I wish my men's league refs would watch this. They are all like "unless you're the captain, don't talk to... 10 minutes for unsportsmanlike". Player - "I just said that it wasn't off-sides". Ref - "That's a game". Luckily I'm the captain, but they still yell at me if I ask a question. I got a "high sticking" call with the puck on my sick a few seasons back. Not joking. And, they didn't blow the whistle under 4 or 5 seconds later when I was about to score. Maybe they are alike. Both are blatantly biased. NHL refs do the bidding of the league. They are told who they are supposed to give an edge to. And they do. Like, the Flyers were supposed to lose last night. They didn't. So next game, the Flyers are going to have to try and kill off a whole game's worth of penalties they didn't commit.
@Markus-zb5zd4 жыл бұрын
well, these refs are usually a lot harder because it's no pro league the pro leagues weaken a lot of these rules for the sole purpose of entertainment sometimes these weakened rules or guidelines make it to the international hockey rules, like the icing that can be chased

yoooo Grier threatened with a 2 and a 10 for asking ref a simple question with no 'A', meanwhile Pronger got a full explanation (and was more confrontational) with no letter either... not saying its something to look into but it sure don't look good in my opinion
@donny_chang4 жыл бұрын
Prongs was a veteran leader with like 15 years in the league at that point. Who tf is Grier to do the same?
@bpeezy22544 жыл бұрын
@@donny_chang Judging by the Sabres banana slug uniforms, Mike Grier had about a decade of service in the league at that point. The letter earning you the right to talk to an official during a stoppage is antiquated and selectively enforced, at best. Technically, the referee was right with threatening Grier with a misconduct in that situation, it's just never called anymore.
@SolarbearsHC4 жыл бұрын
Racial discrimination. It's blatantly obvious, there's not much to "look into" there, but it's also the NHL (and most of the sports world, sadly).
@Markus-zb5zd4 жыл бұрын
@@bpeezy2254 it also depends a lot on the game situation, how the players behave in general and so on, the 2+10 can be nice to cool down a heated game and to put an end to discussions, I usually handle it that way: if there's time and a player wants an explanation, yeah I can do that if a player wants to discuss a decision, warning, last warning, 2+10
@bpeezy22544 жыл бұрын
@@Markus-zb5zd Exactly, well stated and well explained. How often are 10s handed out in late game situations just to curb any histrionics? People inferring literally anything from a 15-second clip where we don't know the score, time, or game history is patently ridiculous.
