The Leafs should sign Crosby and give him a new contract worth more than $10mil per season. That way, the Leafs can be the first team in NHL history to have FIVE players making $10mil and still lose in the first round, lol.

marner and tavares end their deals before sid would be allowed to sign. all three contracts expire next year. also, there's no effing way he's going to toronto. i still say he'll be a lifer in pittsburgh, but if he wants to leave, he might go to the avs to play with mackinnon, or to the habs, who were his favorite team growing up. or maybe he'll just sign with a contender that actually has cap space.

I'm a Jets fan in Winnipeg. Elliot Friedman reported that there was an agreed upon deal between the Jets and Wild - McGoraty for the 12th overall pick. However, because Zeev Buium was available to the Wild at 12, they pivoted from the McGoraty trade to instead keep their pick and select Buium. My point is: this is the type of asset the Jets expect in return. The reason there's been no deal is because no team has come to the table with that type of offer - an equivalent level prospect. Once a team presents that type of offer, only then will a deal be agreed to by the Jets. I totally support Chevy being patient.

There are a few other instances of top prospects who are unhappy in their current situation. One example would be David Jiricek in Columbus. Maybe there's a trade there?

He's ready to play and will outplay roster players earn a spot and still get sent down. That's what teams like that do. Is it possible Sid goes somewhere just for a year? Or maybe as a rental? Could Sid garner enough of a return if Pitt traded him at the deadline? Then he could conceivably return to the Pens the next season, and have a chance to finish there on a reasonably competitive team.. In that scenario, I wouldn't see him going to the Avs or one of the very top teams. I couldn't see those teams wanting to give up the pieces that Pittsburgh would want to make them better quickly. I think the Leafs need a leader with credentials in the room, but I think it's more a Jonathan Toews type.

Edmonton still has problem areas not addressed. They made changes but are they better? Very soft up front. Did they screw up the chemistry? Defence still an issue. Not very often do new guys come in and help. They are praying that Skinner stays healthy. Of course this is their last chance. Leon and Bouchard due for big increases. I would think Leon is gone if he is not extended now.

edmonton's solution to every problem is to get more forwards. while they got skinner and arvidsson on great value contracts, both are small and soft and give the oilers more of what they already have. the ekholm trade was the only significant move they've made in the last few years to address their defense, and stu skinner is basically prime antti niemi. when he's going good, he's a pretty decent NHL starter. when he's not going good, it's an atrocity. very streaky. when the oilers sent campbell down, skinner was arguably playing even worse. and they have to hope pickard doesn't turn into the guy who spent the last few years in the AHL again. the oilers still think it's the 80s. they get away with it because of 97 and 29. if they knew how to build a team properly, they'd already be a dynasty. but they're incapable of even identifying their problems.
