Exactly! The Leafs over paying less for Tavares than other teams does not make it a deal. Tavares was worth 8 M by points and he wanted to come to the Leafs a 7-8 M contract at the most. 11 M for Tavares also meant Leafs giving up their first round pick to move Marleau instead of keeping him for another year and then the Leafs drafting Seth Jarvis.

I'm sorry if that sounds like I don't see them as humans too, but especially in the MLB where umpires are basically held like "my word is law and if you don't like it, leave", regardless of where the questionable calls are made they need to be explained why they saw the call needed to be made like this or at the very least understand that parts of rules were misinterpreted and that they understand the frustrations it causes.

Berube if he is hired by the Leafs will hold these entitled players accountable unless upper management continue to coddle the core 4. Berube seems like the right candidate for the job of preparing the Leafs. Under Keefe they never looked ready to play they always seemed lethargic or lazy taking periods off not competing for the full sixty minutes.

Agree about Tavares. Most likely he retires a Leaf. Very seriously doubt Marner is taking any pay cut at all...particularly with Nylander getting a raise to $11.5. The cap is rumored to be going up $4.2m and all the Leaf core players are overpaid. #13 is not going to feel like he should be the one to fall on his sword for the benefit of the team anymore than Hyman was feeling it. If I had to choose between overpaid Marner or overpaid Nylander to fill a RW slot on my team for $11.5m, I'd take #13 in a heartbeat and not even think twice about it.

I think Swayman was too far out of position to make the save on the Bennett goal. I don't know if that makes a difference, I haven't read the rules on it.

The rules are open to interpretation as we've seen time and again. As goalie interference calls go that was open and shut imo. How that goal stood is going to be a mystery for years, but I would be interested in ensuring that no refs got sudden influxes of debt digits in their bank accounts after that game. I've seen half a dozen posts by Panther fans who said that goal should've been waived off...and they're right.

Tavares has one of those funny money Kyle Dubas Maple Leafs contracts according to cap friendly which caries a base salary of $910,000, a signing bonus due this summer of $7,040,000 and a total salary of under $8M as the contract was stupidly front loaded with the official AAV of $11M total cap hit. After the Leafs pay the bonus only the $910K is due for the 24-25 season which would be interesting to teams who will not spend up to the cap ceiling. That being said though Tavares would be near impossible to move with his NTC/NMC as he holds all the cards.

What about the none call on Knies trip on breakaway that was something that could have had a different outcome and many other times Boston got away with things in the Leafs series. can't have it both ways. either the calls are good or not. Boston shouldn't even be in this series because Leafs are better.

It amazes me that any player would want to sign with the Leafs when the accountability always rests with the individual. The contract is about term not performance or championships. The NHL and PA need to consider supporting contracts that can be terminated based on mutual agreement.

The order of the worst problems for TML are Tavares 11M boat anchor had 2 points in playoffs . Marner complete no show for 90 to 95% of his game then does 1 good thing a game and has 0 heart ! Rielly 7.5M for a defense that has NO CLUE how to play defense, make him a forward for gods sake! Those are the worst players but the REAL problem is Shanahan, he has to be FIRED ASAP! Then build a team made for NHL playoffs not this madness.

I've heard some of the Refs give a reason why there is or isn't a goal, such as The Puck Didn't Completely Go Over The Goal Line. Therefore, We Have No Goal. I would like, as you've said, that there's always some type of explanation on every play, especially Why It Is Or Is Not A Distinct Kicking Motion. Let me know what you think

If I was Treliving Here is what I would do. You need to go to every single player who has a NTC or NMC and ask them individually if they even want to be there anymore. If they all say yes then you ask ALL ofthem IF there was a position or a trade that they believe will help the team and also put them on a team and a chance to have success as well would they consider moving. If they all say no then theres nothing the team can do, you ride out JTS contract and you kill another year and go all in the year after next when they have that extra money . By Askin everyone even if they dont intend to move them say Matthews , it says to say Marner if he says no , ok well its not that they just dont ant me theyre not pinning this on me they asked everyone so if he says no he doesnt think the teams saying hes the problem. IMO. The core 4 are all back next season, Marner will resign, this is all posturing from managment to get through another year to get JTs contract off the books . with Tavares contract gone they dont need to move on fro Marner they can make this team deeper by the increase in cap that will undoubtedtely happen again next year and the 11M from JTs contract I dont think they resign him unless he takes say 3M and ill take a 3rd line checking role. The leafs will do the same thing as they did last season without the benefit of the flat cap and it going up next year. because they only reason DOMI and Bertuzzi signed the 1 year deal and ame to toronto was to bet on themselves and get a longer term deal and more money when the cap goes u this next season. Here is how I see if playing out. Core 5 returns. Domi/Edmundson Return. They sign a veteran to platoon games with Woll , not a true number one like a Saros or a Markstrom , They make a big free agent signing for the least amount of years possible for the least amount of money possible to pacify the fan base. And wait it out til when JT comes off the books,

This is my thoughts. Management is trying to pacify the fan base until JT comes off the books. Marner wont be traded. Look at it this way, this draft isnt the deepest of drafts that ive heard of anyways but they chose to still hold onto that first round pick rther then using it to get a rental or get a real impact player to help them win. Why is that? because they see the flawed way this roster has been nuilt now after so many failed attempts, they know theyre not built to win in the playoffs. They know they need a guy like a Konecny and a Laughton, they know they need a goalie who can win games by themselves they know they need to be tougher and better defensively. And the team they have now cant be that team. So why throw away assets to bandaid a flawed team no matter the value of the pick. By flawed i mean having 4 players over 11M , but once JT comes off and the cap goes up two more times. Theres only 3 and the cap goes up they will be able to spend that money to really deepen this team and get a proper left winger , get that piece on offence and defence when before they were having to choose one or the other, Leaf fans wont want to hear this however next year wont be any different. It will be a transition year. Transition year to get JTs contract off the books. They will resign Marner to a Matching contract to Nylanders. 26-27 and 27-28 will be the years they go all in and actually try to win and spend the assets to do so,

Sam Bennett should NOT have even been on the ice for the last game, in view of his clear sucker punch on Brad Marchand. Then, as a result of the NHL's predictably dismal failure to act in this matter, they end up with another comtroversy on their hands after making a further dog's dinner of the 'Bennett Goalie interference' call. As usual, playoff officiating in these playoffs has frequently been as sadly poor as we have come to expect. Baffling inconsistency when it comes to dealing with perceived goalie interference calls (as per my 'Bennett comments' above), top players seemingly getting a free pass at times (the 'high stick to Quinn Hughes face' incident), and the list goes on. Equally predictably, Gary Bettman and the rest of the NHL hierarchy, sit silently up in their seeming ivory towers, offering no accountability, clarification or words of wisdom at all, regarding such matters. Sad stuff, really☹️.

Look into his contract on cap friendly, it's a funny one which is all signing bonuses paid July 1st with a base salary of $910k owed throughout the season. The Leafs stupidity could give a team who doesn't want to spend $11M but has the cap space to absorb that contract for one season at the $910k salary remaining to be paid.

hawks are the perfect team to trade him to, if the leafs are willing to take on the jones deal. that or the hawks send a bunch of odds and ends of questionable quality. anyway, tavares can mentor bedard, then be dealt for a pick or prospect at the deadline, and the retained salary only runs until season's end. i'd argue it's JT's best chance to end up on a contender. bedard gets some help and insulation for a while. and it's not a long term commitment to a geezer. since it's only the one year, and he'd likely be flipped at the deadline, whether his timeline matches with theirs is entirely irrelevant.

Hawks or another rebuild would definitely, they have the cap space , desperately need points getters to surround Bedard and his leadership for all of their young era guys. Hawks could package one of their D-prospects and maybe give the leafs a couple second rounders or maybe even their 1st rounder back.

That means a balanced lineup of Suzuki, Cole, Lindstrom, Dach, Slav, and Maser, Newhook, Roy, Catton or Iginla, 4th line of Beck, Evans, and Armia. A strong D with our #5 pick will make our future a strong contender for the playoffs!

Thinking Bennett has "key photos" of little man Gary. Dude does pretty much whatever he wants on the ice and the zebras bizarrely ignore it. The sucker punch was obvious because you can see Bennett's arm extend...the question there is does he hit Marchand with the butt end of his stick. Crickets from player safety. Last season there was the vicious and dangerous undertaker wrestling play on Matthew Knies but weirdly neither the zebras or player safety saw a thing. For me Sam Bennett is the new Raffi Torres. Everyone knows he's a dirty POS intentionally injuring players every chance he gets, but for some reason the league doesn't care. For reference, I've no dog in this hunt. I don't care one iota whether Florida, Boston, or Toronto win games...okay I do prefer for the Leafs to lose most nights. lol ...and I watched that nasty play on young Matthew Knies and it ticked me straight off. Bennett should've been suspended for the remainder of the playoffs for that...yet the officials didn't even seem to notice or care. Very strange.
