Played hockey for 13 years. Was a hockey ref for 7 years. Hockey players truly are cut from a different cloth. The trash talk is on a whole different level. The old joke was "Soccer players pretend they're hurt. Hockey players pretend they aren't."
@chopsquotes93265 ай бұрын
How could you get hurt with all that padding 😂
@Bearhoff5 ай бұрын
@chopsquotes9326 they shoot the puck so hard they can break a guys leg through the pads.
The sport is borderline medieval and pugilistic, like American football or rugby, but perhaps when you add in ice, high speeds and a puck that reaches faster speeds than a pro baseball pitch, that has rigid edges and is fired almost point blank at you. Soon you realize your pads are merely there as a joke, especially in professional hockey.
@BobbyBoucher2285 ай бұрын
@@squirrelz6117The pads in hockey merely create the illusion that your safe until you come to the hard realization that you aren’t when you leg is broken by a 90+ mph heater from the point. Hockey is still a very fun sport to play, you just have to accept that getting hurt while playing is sometimes part of the experience.

My fav chirp I have in my inventory was for the refs when they were being trash and calling games inconsistently. It was “Hey ref can I get a penalty for thinking? Ref - no. Me - good cause I think you f***ing suck” the refs really loved that one cause half the time they’d get even more pissed and the other times they’d just start laughing.

The fun part about growing up in this sport and being in enough fights. It was always hand shaking at the end. You were always the bad guy if you did not be respectful after a fight or game. Hockey is one of the last sports where no matter what happens you are expected to be respectful before and after. You dress professional and act it.

Played at all different levels in Canada for 35 years, every league has this type of chatting. I said things to other players that I`d def be embarrassed to repeat anywhere else. Lots of death threats, questioning of sexual orientation, ugly, lack of skill, and body-shaming comments. Most of it is ignored and greatest number of fights are in response to a `dirty` play against you or a teammate.

The trash talk today is significantly toned down. They'll get fined or a suspension if it's too politically incorrect. Hell, we said sh!t on the ice as 10 year olds that players would never say today. Calling someone a f@g or calling him a queer would always start a fight. Speaking of fights, you should do a video of hockey fights, the best ones are Johnathan vs Bouchard and Probert vs Coxe.
