So there are couple of points that stand out on this video. One, Scott Palmer is an ANIMAL for building and driving what is the really the Blown Altered (with DOORS!) for our era in Drag Racing. It also shows that you can have 10,000 horsepower and if it doesn't hook, you're not going anywhere. When Scott gets the set up right and is on a Track with enough Bite... its going to be something to see FOR SURE! I predict that you are seeing your first 4 second Pro Mod right here. Keep the shiny side up and hurt some feelings Scott, we are all supporting you!

@Cfbrolley13205 жыл бұрын
@@davidfreeman8074 I guess the best rough comparison would be to compare Australian pro alcohol funnycar and pro doorslammer - both are the exact same engine but different chassis - the alky funnycar has run quicker by about 3 tenths, so a top fuel engine in a pro mod would probably see 4.80s over a full quarter at best. That's a pretty rough comparison though.
@bechtoea4 жыл бұрын
The lack of a good run is because of the track, not the car. The amount of "glue" they put on an NHRA nitro prepared track is ridiculous and it has to be for it to hook. This track simply isn't set up to hold 10K+ HP.

Lol....I had to watch this more than once. I'm a life long fan of NHRA drag racing, I have to tell you, Scott Palmer might set a new trend with this thing. With all the street racing stuff out there he could bridge the gap between street racing fans and Drag strip only fans. I can't tell you how many street racing fans I have talked to that don't even know about the NHRA, or T/F for that matter. Alot of them are in disbelief when I tell them that the 500ci engine in a Top Fuel, and Top Fuel Funny Car produces between 10,000hp and 12,000hp, and 7,000 to 8500 ft/lbs of torque!! For those of you that come across this video and aren't familiar with Top Fuel......... T.V. and KZbin does not do it justice. A Top Fuel engine under load is so brutal that 100 feet away in the stands it blurs your vision, rattles your bones, and takes your breath away (Not kidding)😁 So if your ever at a Top Fuel event my friends, and they are warming up in the pits.... WATCH THE FLAGS ON TOP OF THE CAR HAULER. Wind direction is important.....Ha ha ha!
@TheMoezilla5 жыл бұрын
Street racing isn't really my thing, too dangerous. Must be my 40's talking...however, I have been on numerous videos where the folks in the comments are expressing disbelief over the fuel car numbers, while having yet to even experience the sensory overload of a run! Kinda ironic actually...last year at Bandimere was my first time watching Pro Mod's at the track, maybe a dozen runs or so? But I have seen hundreds of top fuel passes between Bandimere in Colorado and Brainerd in Minnesota. Different strokes for different folks I guess. As far as warm ups go, shallow breaths and sunglasses is my standard gear. Plus go find Scott Palmer's car up in the pits, one of the last teams doing the throttle whack that I know of...

He didn't wreck, nothing broke (that i know of) and no one got hurt. Competing at this level, everthing comes into play. Elevation, track temperature, air temperature, humidity level, suspension settings, chassis settings, chassis dynamics, tire pressure, etc. It requires a lot of time patience, testing and tuning to get a monster like this to go not just fast, but more importantly straight.

But I bet it was fun to try.
He did that a few years back in Sikeston, MO too. Made a half track hit and shut it off.

Saw this probably 20 years ago... One of the top doorslammer guys (blown Keith Black alky engine) decided to put nitro in his engine. Got as far as the burnout before it punched the crank out of the bottom of the block. Was super cool to watch, but needless to say it was a one shot deal.

If I'm not mistaken, that was Richie Crampton's '57 Chevy. That car was badass too, but the key difference is Palmer's car is running a Top Fuel engine, the Crampton/Lindberg car is a Top Alcohol engine. ~7000 HP difference.

Lotta raw fuel. Was it on 2 cylinders for the burnout.
@nick48195 жыл бұрын
Nah just not making enough spark to ignite the fuel that you see. Some racers turn off one of the magnetos as to not make too much power for the burnout as well as trim the fuel way back. That's why after the burnout...you'll see the crew walk up to the car again and remove the throttle stop(keeps them from over-revving during the burnout), turn on the other magneto, etc. Next time you go to a race...after the burnout and the crew walks up to the car...listen how the engine sound changes. That's the fuel burning more thoroughly and as he's staging..the driver has a lever/switch in his cockpit that turns on the fuel to "rattle the earth" levels...you'll hear an audio change with that as well. If you can look at it just right...even has sort of a yellow tint to the exhaust.

I have a feeling the clutch was slipping pretty badly with both launches. The sparks under the car around where the transmission is isn't a good sign and the fact that the rear tires never seemed to gain RPM's at fast as the engine did leads me to think the clutch setup needs some rethinking. I suspect the clutch would slip so badly that Scott would assume he'd broke traction and let off the throttle. Yet when the engine RPM's would begin to drop you'd see the rear tires suddenly start to gain RPM's and break traction. Meaning the clutch was finally locking up enough to send some of that power to the rear end but only when the engines RPM's would drop enough for the clutch to have a chance to grab. I could be completely wrong but having spent more then a few years on the track I'd about bet money the clutch setup is at least a big part of what's going on here.
