I was just thinking about makeing this invention looks like they beat me to it however in my draft for it the insulin pod would be a little wider with 2 tubes attached and a divide in the pod one side for insulin the other for glucose so if it sensed a low it could automatically pump some sugar as well to keep you in range

Yes but due to tory cuts you'll need to wait 5 years for it.

I don't want to detract from the primary message being made here, but I think that they ought to have mentioned that the young lady in the interview (Yasmin Hopkins) is a "Diabetes Account Specialist at Novo Nordisk" who are themselves a diabetes supply company. I must point out that I do actually agree with everything that she said in the interview and I personally hope that NICE are able to convince NHS England to pay for the pumps and more importantly the CGM sensors to work with them. I say "CGM" sensors, like the Dexcom G6 which Yasmin is seen wearing. Most diabetics can only get FreeStyle Libre "FGM" (Flash Glucose Monitor) sensors which do not interface with the pump she is shown using which is a Tandem t:slim x2 pump. The inability of Diabetics to get Dexcom CGM sensors on prescription is the thing that has held this whole process up for years.

This is a sales Pitch. I'm type 1 and unable to use libre or the artificial pancreas because of the glue. It makes my skin react, weap then drop off. She is the classic approachable sales woman. My friend has a pump and spends most of the day having to fiddle about with it.

I can assure you that there is no link between my job role and the advocacy work I do for my type 1 community.

I am still unable to get a closed loop system in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Freestyle Libre 2 is the readily available CGM on he NHS, but I am wishing for a Dexcom 6 based system. My every hope that England gets good results from the artificial pancreas systems and the rest of the UK will follow.

I'm not convinced this would be safe for my husband, who is a type 1 diabetic farmer.

It should be, the one that she is using there suspends insulin if your blood sugar level is dropping. Tandem t:slim x2 is the pump.

"Insulin injections to treat Type 1 diabetes could become a thing of the past, but finding the cure faces many challenges. Although transplanting insulin-producing cells represents a promising approach, this cell therapy requires immunosuppression to prevent rejection. Georgia Tech researchers have developed a new biomaterial called iTOL-100 that could cure Type 1 diabetes by inducing immune acceptance of curative transplanted cells without immunosuppression. This groundbreaking platform therapy is the basis for the new startup, iTolerance. The company is working to enable implantable tissue, organoid, or cell therapy without the requirement for lifelong immunosuppression. The therapies have the potential to not only cure Type 1 diabetes but also regenerate failing livers.". 😁😁 KZbin not allowing better to Google Georgia tech researchers type 1 Diabetic 😁😁

I'm wondering if you still need to input your expected carbs before every meal? As there have been a number of systems that seem to do similar things, I just wondered how this differs

What they actually didn't cover was the fact that only Health Authorities in certain areas will get the funding for them. Added to that, there is a specific criteria that has to be met to be eligible to go on an Artificial Pancreas. Then they do the under 18's first, followed by pregnant women then adults. So the waiting time is loooong! There's courses you have to attend and pump training. News teams seriously need to look at the bigger picture instead of making it sound like you can just get one, dashing people's excitement and high hopes.
