In this video I take take a look at the NHX-10kw.
I do some load tests and share my thoughts on the unit. Watts247 carries these units. They’ve been testing and tweaking things for close to a year. These inverters would be a great option for people needing an outdoor rated hybrid unit at a good price.

Another great review! I saw those on the Watts 24/7 website and I figured if Ian was selling them, they’re probably great units for the price. He’s pretty picky about solar gear. I won’t be surprised if the price goes up a bit once they get some traction. I really like the 10k size. That’s plenty enough power for most folks homes 👍⚡️☀️💡🔋

What would be interesting to see is experimenting with the new indoor EG4 Powerpro battery you just received and hooking it up to the new NHX-10kw inverter unit. That is the exact combo I am looking at getting. The setup would just run my 240v loads like well pump, water heater, heat pump, ac and dryer. I talked to Ian and he said to set it to USE type batter and bulk to 57.5, float to 56v and low cut off to 48v.
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 5 ай бұрын
That voltage would work perfect yeah. That’s what I had mine set to. It would essentially be almost what I tested the inverter with when I ran all my loads with it. I had 300ah of battery hooked to it. And the new indoor power pro is 280ah.

Thanks for this review Gavin. Really good job. Inverter looks like it has good potential. Ideal for those persons looking for a dedicated EV charging solution from solar. It's amazing the level of quality and feature rich inverters that have been released just within the past 12 months. Also, I'm glad to see that these newer inverters have cleared up concerns pertaining to neutral ground bonding....that was such a mess a few years back.

@Gavin S. Quick question, do you like this unit over the EG4 18Kpv? Also what is the idle consumption? And can you have this unit back-feed and power loads in your main panel and also in your critical load panels at the same time with export set to zero or disable?
@GavinStoneDIY

The 18kpv and this unit are actually different in a number of ways. I prefer the 18kpv overall. But this unit definitely has potential. It did really well in all my tests. This unit has grid interactive features. So it’s able to feed your main panel with the zero export option. I believe I tested around 65 watts idle consumption on the NHX in this video.

@@GavinStoneDIY awesome 👏 thanks for the feedback i like the hybrid inverters best as you can keep non critical loads in your main panel and still used PV or battery to power them as needed, plus having a critical load panel just for only critical loads, too bad they have not made the 12Kpv model yet, that would be perfect.

Really just want to be able to use what I produce and grid back up or if I was to go over the 10K rating while grid is connected have grid make up the difference I don't think I would pull much more than that often.

Hi, thank you for the wonderful product video. Im somewhat new to the solar scene and have been deciding on what inverter I wanted to purchase. Very impressed with this unit however, Iam a bit weary of those quick connects for ac out. What is your take on those type connections? I personally would like to see screw down clamp style there. Thanks!

It’s hard to say. Personally I think they work fine. I haven’t heard of any failures with these on the NHX yet. I’ve use similar inputs on PV before. It makes sense why they couldn’t add standard terminals though. The wiring area is a bit tight. I’m editing another video on the NHX now. I really do like the inverter. Especially at this price point.

@GavinStoneDIY I appreciate the extremely quick reply, brother! Yeah, I don't think it's a deal breaker for me, but even as I stated earlier about being somewhat new to solar, I have years of electrical and electronic background. One instance where I have seen issues with a similar type connection was in regular household 120vac outlets using the push to connect type setup. The blades do not make sufficient contact or should I say, not enough surface area and tend to heat up and deteriorate quicker than using the clamp style. Either way, thank you once again! Great video tutorial and reviews 👌

Hello Gavin: I watched the NHX video again for the 5th time, great video. I have talked to Ian also on the unit. I've decided to go with the NHX inverter in my system. I was going to go with 3 EG4 Lifepower 4 batteries to start with, but noticed that you were using EG4 LL-s batteries on this test. Am wondering in an NHX set up with only 3 batteries would you use the EG4 LLS batteries or the Lifepower 4 batteries? Having a hard time making up my mind. Thanks Jeff
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 5 ай бұрын
I would choose the LL’s. Mostly because the longer warranty, but also nicer software. But they are more expensive, so if you do choose the lifepower4’s I would highly recommend getting the communication hub to go with them.
@jeffthornton2618
@jeffthornton2618 5 ай бұрын
Gavin: after looking at my space, I am deciding it would maybe be better for me to go with 3 EG4 LL batteries rather than the EG4 power pro in hooking up to the NHX 10k unit. In one of your videos it looks like you were powering your unit with those LL batteries. Am not sure that is the way to go. On the watts 247 site he sells the SOK and Pytes batteries. Do they have the same protocol that NHX uses? Thanks, Jeff
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 5 ай бұрын
I actually think the LL’s would have worked in “Deye” protocol on my LL’s. That is pylon I think. I just didn’t realize that when I made video. I’m going to be reviewing the other rack batteries Ian has soon I think.

Checks a lot of boxes . I believe the wave will be grid tie zero export. Thats certainly what I'm interested in . Plus it can run as a backup when grid is down. so my wife can run the washer ,dryer, hair dryer, stove and both central units (when the grid is up) this thing is lowering my bill. Im not giving the utility company anything😊 . And my wife aint complaining. WIN... On paper u could have two in parallel 10k on each leg do all of the above @ 120w idle less than the eg4 18k.
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 5 ай бұрын
For sure it has a lot of potential. 2 of these would definitely run all my loads. The idle consumption of the 18k is around 70watts. The these units appear to be 63-70 watts. So actually pretty similar. So yeah you’d probably be around 120-130 idle consumption. I expect to see a lot more of these on people’s walls soon.

@@GavinStoneDIY if I'm not mistaken a single 18 would be less total kw and surge than 2 10k's in parallel.Plus if the 18k goes down your s.o.l. but it's less likely both 10k's would go down at the same time
@GavinStoneDIY
@GavinStoneDIY 4 ай бұрын
@@blainecelestaine4543 yeah redundancy is a factor also. It’s always nice to have a backup. The 18kpv’s output is 12kw. Versus 10kw for the NHX. 2-NHX’s would have 8kw more output than the 18kpv. There is of course other differences in the two inverters other than output. So it’s hard to do a complete apples to apples comparison.
