Absolutely superb battery conversion job👌 I have gone a different way to convert several of my old 18 volt Dewalt NI-CAD/NI-MH power tools to Lithium Ion. I use the original NI-CAD battery top cover and battery connector and attach a slimline Lithium Ion adapter shoe directly to the original NI-CAD top plate. This assembly of old top plate and Lithium adapter shoe is then fixed into the power tool battery port with 4 small self tapping screws and then a standard Dewalt 18 volt Lithium Ion battery can be fitted to all the modified power tools. So far I have successfully converted an 18 volt cordless vacuum cleaner,a 165mm trim saw, a compact angle drive drill and a SDS masonry drill....all work very good on the Lithium Ion packs.

You can actually buy the complete adapter (very cheap) which is very good quality and also has USB out. Search Battery Adapter DM18D With USB, Compatible With Dewalt 18V Tools

Except that you may ruin your batteries if they expect a tool with part or all of the BMS circuit in it, since the Dewalt 12V/14.4V/18V NiCd tools had no such circuitry in them, and I am certain that "some" (if not all) Dewalt Li-Ion batteries in the 18V/20V families, do not have the BMS in them.

Wow, I have never seen such a super quality film here and it seems to be 4 K quality and the revision of the old worn batteries is TOP and even the manufacturer could not do it better. I would certainly entrust my device to him for the repair and you will not find many such perfectionist repairers.

I had three cordless drills - two of which were at least 13 years old - and had been sidelined fro almost a decade It was only a year or so ago that I had to repair a LiOn Battery in a MAKITA cordless drill -- It was then decided to convert and re-pack the three Power tools that were set aside - and convert them to LiOn It certainly was better than dumping them. I see many for sale at local Trash & Treasure markets - being sold for the equivalent of USD $3 - unfortunately not many of then have the charger to go with it -- so selling them after a modification has been completed - makes it difficult to SELL sans charger

Top class video with very clear instructions. My tip for sourcing Lithium ion cells is to check out your recycling centre where these 18560 cells can be found in every tool battery also in hoovers and anything else using lithium batteries such as hoovers etc. An almost limitless supply of free good batteries.

I purchased a brand new Black and Decker 20v lithium impact drill/driver for $49.95. I know it's difficult tossing perfectly good tools with bad batteries, but still. I have other drills, but that's the only one I use now. It's powerful and changing bits is super easy. The money and time you spend to get the batteries and other parts and then assemble, it's cheaper to get something new and modern.

Great video, nice tips, would do it too for my oldy but goody DeWalt DC981 ... BUT ... am too scared of fire/explosion of Li-Ion batt's. If something burns in ''3S 40A BMS'' overcharge protection might be disabled and than BIG BANG. While if the fire breaks out in the Li-Ion there is literally nothing you can do to put it out. I do a lot of handy work, sometimes charging in the house, in the shed also in the room or adjacent room, where I work, so ...... rather no Li-Ion. Will go with 1,2 V LiitoKala Sub C, 3500 mAh, Ni-Mh and sleep tight :).

I did a similar job (But not as good) for a Dewalt 18V Drill and only 5 cells (21V) fit in the case, using a 5S 100A BMS from the silver ones. And I did exactly something similar with the charger using a 24V Printer transformer, but it must have a protection circuit because it deactivates 0V when connecting the battery, I have to do it several times. Hello friend, I don't know much English, but I will try to explain my problem: , I tried to change the battery of a 14.4 v drill to lithium, I used recycled 18650 batteries (obviously tested and with the same voltage) and formed a 4s2p pack and bought 4s bms boards at 40 amps (balancer type), and on three occasions the plates did not withstand even a vacuum test: (without effort) I thought it would be a defect in the board but I ordered from another store and now that I tried a new one and did a vacuum test performance, suddenly I heard a small explosion, I ignored it and continued drilling, until I heard a second one so I assumed that something had happened in the BMS and yes, a mosfet exploded and the truth is physically you can't see anything else but I think that more than one component must have been damaged as well. In your videos it looks so simple (and it really is, it's not very scientific) and this is happening to me, I only did a vacuum test on the other boards and apparently the transistors that are responsible for balancing the cells are heating up too much ( one or two, not all) and when I load them with the imax6 I get "connection break". Can you explain to me what I'm doing wrong or what causes could cause this to happen or at least what should I do? I thank you in advance.P.S: There are more details to explain but I didn't want to go on too long, if you need more details let me know

This does not make a lot of sense, that if you already had a complete charger, you might as well have just left it in the original enclosure and ran the power (output) cord into the base of the original charger. No need for the glue job you did which may also fail later, remembering that the PCB is going to get hot and that tends to degrade glue. It is especially significant considering that your adapter board handles AC mains voltage on it, and also that the charger board didn't look like a particularly good/safe designed product to begin with.
