When you wondered why Callahan didn't ask for help in rebuilding the portal I realized they were paralleling him and Hiro. The difference was Hiro had friends to stop him going too far and to talk some sense to him. This movie's much deeper than remembered...
@AngelWedge2 ай бұрын
Also, to consider rebuilding the portal, he would have needed some hope that getting stuck in there would be survivable. He was so focused on the danger, even before the experiment, that he never considered the possibility. To Callahan, the portal was a symbolic way to exact his revenge, not a goal in itself.

@ruesparks2 ай бұрын
Re: your shock at it going from 0 to 60 in under a minute 20 minutes in… this is why I think this movie is one of the most profound animated movies about grief and trauma (and it’s family friendly without talking down to the audience.) The suddenness, the whiplash from joy and confidence to utter ruin, how a couple weeks passed after the fire within a couple of minutes with us only seeing a montage of what happened with no voice over. It’s all purposeful. Trauma and grief are harrowing because many times they come out of nowhere, and even on a neuroscience/psychological level it takes time for our brains and emotions to catch up. That among other things is why (especially as a young queer widow) love this movie so, so much. The grief was handled incredibly well, with such compassion.

@@SvElAdKe It's ridiculous. I remember seeing it on DVD and thinking it wasn't bad, but didn't get what all the fuss was about. Then as the hype grew, the more my distaste for the movie grew. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this movie is based on a smaller Marvel comic. I remember hearing that they didn't think it would read well to add to the MCU in live action, but people at Disney still wanted to give it a go, so they gave it the animated treatment which worked perfectly.

I'm sorry I have to disagree with Calahan not being a real villain. When he first saw his students at the dock, he, immediately, tried to kill them. He never tried to scare them off, or get them to join his side, he flat out tried to murder everyone with no hesitation. I understand he is so angry he can't think straight, but there was no remorse for Tadashi's death, and even blamed Tadashi for his own death. And no remorse for trying to kill the kids, and destroying the new complex without making sure there would be no civilian casualties.

It is hilarious that you keep saying MCU level action because it was a marvel comic lol but it wasn't done by the MCU team and the movie brought it. The real heroic story is not people facing off with the man in the mask but people facing down their grief and being brave enough to work on healing from it. Actually, Big Hero 6 is inspired by one of Marvel's lesser known comics of the same name, but it's pretty different from the movie in many ways: Hiro is a super-genius whose parents died, though he didn't had an aunt nor a brother, Fred is a guy capable of turning into a kaiju, Wasabi (or Wasabi-no-Ginger) is an elderly swordsmaster samurai-like guy, Gogo is a a skilled motorcyclist and an accomplished racer and stunter and Honey Lemon has a purse from which she can took anything she wants. They were kind of a bunch of japanese culture mix-max, tbh, and technically a combination to anime culture and creations.
