The memory thing was an important part of the novel. Not only was there an entire section about how Wendy had to work really hard to keep her brothers from forgetting their family back home while they were in Neverland (and she wasn't even sure if she was succeeding because she was forgetting too), but there was also a running thing of Peter forgetting people the second he was out of sight. Wendy and her brothers were almost lost on the trip to Neverland because Peter went off for a minute and forgot that he was in the middle of showing them the way. He had to be reminded.

Most arent aware that Glenn Close is the one, dressed as a man, a pirate, standing next to Peter Pan on the ship, is the one put in the chest " the boom box" with the scorpions dropped in on her. Close was friends with Williams, visited the set one day and was chosen to play this particular male/Pirate.
@richardzinns5676Ай бұрын
Peter could not reconnect with his parents in the present, because he spent so much time in Neverland that by the time he came back they would certainly have been dead. Peter was born in the Victorian era, after all. (In fact, although Barrie wrote the original play, and later novel, about Peter Pan in the very early years of the 20th century, he had already introduced the character of Peter about ten years earlier, before the turn of the century, in a novel called The Little White Bird.)

The pirates are disillusioned Lost Boys who grew up but are still trapped in Neverland... but with the way time and memory work they've forgotten all of it. Tink is a serial kidnapper 😬 I enjoy the theory that Hook was either an early Lost Boy or possibly a proto-Peter Pan (which is why he now leads the ex-Lost Boy pirates).

Tink is a fairy....she isn't a human so you can't think of her in the human age development way. Now you are so right with the subliminal messages peppered throughout the movie. The brilliance is that it works as a kid's fantasy, but the movie messages are clearly aimed at adults. You have to have adult context for them to hit. The line of Captain Hook telling Peter that he really wasn't Peter Pan and he would wake up to his old reality is brilliant. It's almost like a break in the fourth wall as if Hook was speaking directly to the adult audience. It's like he's saying that we can escape our reality temporarily and be reminded of our childhood through the movie but when we leave we will be hit with the reality of our adult lives. But the message of the movie and Peter Pan in general is that we always have the ability ro hold that inner child with us and always have that childlike wonder and imagination even when we grow up is we choose to remember it and make it an active part of ourselves. Never forget the child inside. The innocence and wonder of being a child is a precious gift at any stage of life. You can maintain balance.

55:45 soo... since he doesn't age when he's in Neverland, and his parents are at the very least 5-10 years (+the time from him leaving his parents to he meets Wendy) older than Wendy, and Wendy is 92 in the movie, it VERY fair to assume that Peter's parents are long dead... and it's not even a stretch to assume that his sibling is also dead...

At the start, when Tinkerbell takes Peter back to Neverland, she flies over a couple kissing on a bridge. She drops fairy dust on them and they start to fly. That couple is played by George Lucas and Carrie Fisher of Star Wars fame. Also, Julie Roberts was so notorious on set that she got the nickname Tinkerhell.

@@NiaMakiReactsit was definitely Dustin Hoffman. There is something of a tradition of the actor portraying Hook also playing another character, not unlike how in The Wizard of Oz most of the actors from the farm end up portraying characters in Oz. In the Disney cartoon, the same actor played Hook and Mr Darling, the children’s father. Dustin Hoffman doing the pilot’s announcement could be seen as a nod to that mini tradition. I also love Phil Collins playing the detective. It’s so out of the blue but he does a decent job of it.

Hook has been a favorite of mine since very early childhood. Watching it as a kid is definitely different than watching as an adult but just as good, if not but with an additional tinge of sadness because you understand what Peter has lost in his own life but also what most adults have lost in the process of growing up. That being said - Peter's parents are long dead and could not reconnect with them at this point. He was born before 1900 and the movie takes place in 1991 (when it came out). He is actually older than Wendy is so his parents would be much older than she is.

The first line in the book is "All children, except one, grows up" which suggests that the Lost Boys grow up to become pirates which is rather horrifying in hindsight. A lot of the Lost Boys went to England with Wendy, Michael, and John and grew up in the real world.

@lancevance60 There's a scene right after peter pan remembers how to fly when he flies up the captain hook... He says I remember my happy thought and it was you. It was right after the scene where he said his happy thought was being a father. They made it really subtle, but it's his dad. To go even deeper, It would seem the reason hook Hated peter pan Is because he wanted him to be a pirate. Peter pan saw that as growing up. There was a scene in the beginning of the movie, Peter was talking to wendy about his job and she said oh my gosh Peter you became a pirate. I love how they used to make movies
@xKagryxАй бұрын
@@joshuasharrock466he flies up to Jack in that scene, who is dressed in a copy of Captain Hooks clothes. He’s telling Jack that his happy thought was him, Jack, his son, i.e. becoming Jacks father which we saw in the memory scene. He’s not telling Hook that he’s Peter’s happy thought. It’s confusing because they’re dressed the same and we aren’t shown his face in that shot, but the shot immediately before he says it established he was talking to Jack. For what it’s worth I used to think the same thing when I was a kid because the full screen version of the movie made it hard to tell. But from the deleted scenes Peter does have a father and the actor is def not Dustin Hoffman.
