I'm always fascinated when an artist paints first instead of sketch/linework first. I can't wrap my brain around that approach since my mind refuses to work regarding color planning without a more structured plan, but your plant doodles were beautiful! A pleasure to watch you paint :)

How very interesting. I have always painted first, then sketch and can't figure out how to do the reverse. I am fascinated, wondering what was it that gets us started on a path that we seem to follow. Thank you for sharing.

I absolutely love the look of this style. The calculated looseness and flow of it all. I struggle significantly with letting go of the picture perfect idea and embracing the flow of it. Do you have any tips on how to overcome the “perfectionist” mentality when painting?
@deborahgiles82142 жыл бұрын
I struggle with this too! But you hit the nail on the head. If I focus on the process and force myself to not sweat each individual line or brush stroke, I can look at what I'm doing with someone else's eyes, not my own self-critical eye. I switch my eyes over to seeing as though it's not my own eyes looking at my own work. If I reverse the process and look at someone else's work with my standard self-critical eye, I find all kinds of things I would give myself a hard time over. And yet, until the moment I start looking for those "imperfections" I love the painting I'm looking at. It's focusing on this mind shift, or eye shift that allows me to step back from what I'm doing and gives an important distance or shift in perspective. Also if something is going badly I force myself to finish for the value of whatever I will learn from going through the process. Guaranteed, when I look the next day, it's way less of a disaster than I thought at the time. Last thing that just popped into my head, and this might be biggest of all. I let go of being disappointed when I don't have the control to create exactly what is in my mind. I try to create my "vision" then accept my creation for what it is. Not just feeling sorry for the ugly duckling, but understanding that what I have created is its own individual thing. Nobody that looks will be comparing it to my mind's eye so no reason I should judge the project as a failure bec of that comparison. That's a lot. Hope this helps!

It's amazing, your beautiful little pictures are so beautiful. You drew so many subjects in one video and made it possible for me to see your creativity and ingenuity. I have a great idea, can you draw 4 works at the same time? That means you will not wait to complete one work, but you can complete 4 works at the same time. If you can do that, that would be great.
