I think this version makes it even more relatable while at the same time also more ridiculous, showing how little they understand of human language, yet employ it (or at least some of the idioms) as best as they can because they may find them funny or actually like them. After all, even within our own language we have some people who love mixing up such idioms for the fun of it. Laughing my head off (instead of the butt), two wags of a dogs tail (instead of shakes of a lambs tail), etc. It just gets even better when the idiom combines things that would not work on first glance (or wrok far too well, as with the cat/duck issue).

LOL. Of course, the actual phrase is "If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it's a duck." It's often meant to imply some things are just obvious, not obscure or complex. It's also frequently used to counter arguments of something not being what it appears to be (ex. a response to a person with liberal views claiming to not be a liberal).

@desarka Actually, it WAS a five year story arc. And the ratings never dropped, they were actually getting higher, but the network the show was on was having some problems, thus when he was starting the 4th season, he wasn't sure if he would get a 5th season. That's why the Shadow War + Rebellion against Earth was squeezed in the 4th season, in case the show only lasted 4 years. But a 5th year was eventually renewed and the show moved to TNT.

@desarka It was always intended to be 5 seasons. Now there was a period of time where it looked like they would be forced to finish in four seasons, which led to a lot of the problems with the fifth season, but it was never intended to go past five.

@desarka On the contrary. He had a five year arc, but they weren't sure they'd be renewed for a fifth season. The channel on which they were broadcasting hadn't renewed them for a fifth season, so JMS condense the last two seasons into one. When TNT picked-up Babylon 5 for its fifth season, he had all but run out of the story he'd originally made for the show.

No, five seasons was the plan. But for a while it looked like they would only get four seasons (because the old network went of business, and they did not know if someone else would pick it up, rather than poor ratings). So he had to cram more into the fourth season than intended, and pad out the fifth. There was not going to be a season 6 or 7 though.

Even more funny when you consider that JMS has said to consider being "cosmic cat chewing toy", because all the difficulties he had with production companies like Paramount (who copied his ideas to DS9) and TNT (who did it's best to sabotage "Crusade" spin-off series with unreasonable demands, so that JMS would cancel it by himself and they would not have to pay reparations according to their contract.)
