I love Jane Eyre as much as I love the Wide Sargasso Sea...... But I never merged them...... I see them as individual stories..... Though Jean Rhys stated that she thought Bertha Mason's character in Jane Eyre never received justice, I believe the mystery of that character in Jane Eyre makes it special. I think through the Wide Sargasso Sea Rhys portrayed what could have been the actual story behind Bertha Mason's tragic end.
