I also had a 1400 with the 140 breech cover what a great pellet gun as a kid in the 70s growing up in the country it was all the entertainment I needed. I wish I still had it

The 1400 is my favorite Crosman rifle mainly because it was my first pellet rifle moving up from bb guns my dad gave my first 1400 to me July of 1974 for my 13th birthday. I own 5 currently that I have narrowed down as best shooters/condition of several that I have owned over the past 50 years. The one you have looks like a Coleman era Crosman do to the plain looking wood which had little graining compared to pre Coleman guns. I do want to say the 140 it was a fine rifle too just didn't have the sentimental attachment for me as the 1400 does 😊

Boy does this bring me back! I had a sears version of the 1400 but the but the breach cover/bolt was like your 140. I took many a squirrel with it back in the 60s-70s.

These old Crosman models 140 and 1400 both use a blow-off cap system. It was designed to prevent an air lock which was a problem for striker released valves found in the Benjamin and Sheridan rifles when over pumped. The disadvantage to this system is that trigger pull weight increases with the number of pumps. The Crosman model 140 is more powerful than the 1400. Reason being the 1400 has a smaller capacity reservoir and the max stated velocity was 580 fps. The 140 will produce 670 fps with 12 pumps.

My head to head challenges are to compare accuracy only not a full on review of both guns. I do that separately for each gun

I haven’t chrony’d them myself but I believe I read 4-600 fps depending on how many pumps

From the ones I have owned stock valve with 8 pumps average around 640fps of course that can very a little depending on the pellet.

I have a 1400 i am missing rear cap and screw and plastic need parts from barrel

Best I can suggest is look on ebay or call Henry Ford to see if he might have the parts
