you should use the vip lounge they have. 35 dollars and they take care of all paperwork. In the event your suitcase has to be open. GO DOWN THERE.

They hold u up that long because they are wanting you to slip them some cash to hurry you along. And you weren't cluing in. I had no idea about this the first time I went back to Nicaragua. The moment they know you are from the U.S. or Canada they pull you to the side and make you jump through these hoops, its not until you offer to pay them to move you along that they actually let you go without looking through your bags. Thats why your luggage was put through several times,

Quite possibly my favorite comment to date! It never once dawned on me that they were looking for a bribe lol. But I think even knowing that, I likely wouldn't try to bribe customs officials in any country that I visit. Very interesting!

Did you like the airport inn? I’m considering staying there.
@thejauntingape4 ай бұрын
Yes, I did really like it. I stayed there on my way back home too. Clean, and comfortable. Not luxury by any means!

Sorry that they were hassling u, years back customs was a bit more laid back and more stuff was free and or had cheaper import duty, nowadays they seem to be nickle and diming u for every little thing

Yes I noticed they picked apart everyone and looked at everything they could possibly charge duty on. Its unfortunate, but the wait is worth the visiting the amazing country!

@@thejauntingape 😊glad you liked it inspite of all the airport hustlers and shakedown operatives, its actually my home country, a commenter on ur channel say to fly instead into the airport across the border in costa rica i never heard about that Hack, i was thinking of trying that the next time just to change it up when I go back home, my place is located near Ticuantepe, did u just hang out in Managua or did you go to other places?
@thejauntingape7 ай бұрын
@MrSamadolfo I have heard of the Liberia Hack before, but never tried it. I only was in managua on my arrival and departure nights. I spent the whole trip on Ometepe! I've got a few nice videos up already from there and more to come! I did a video in Cascada de San Ramon and one on ojo de Agua! Check them out if you have time!

@@thejauntingape 😊 ok cool I will, ive been to Ometepe three times so far, i think Ometepe is actually closer to Iberia Airport so that would make sense flying into there if ur final destination is the southern parts of NIC, I want to go to El Castillo, its on the far East side of that Lake ⛵🚢

Don't let the lack of efficiency at the airport get you down on this! Either bite the bullet and fly into managua and hope for the best, or fly into Liberia, Costa Rica and drive (or bus) into Nicaragua. It is totally worth the struggle to visit this amazing country.

I have been there 4 times and I am always reluctant to tell them my profession “active duty military” I have never had an issue, until the 4th time they held my passport and went to get some further guidance but it only took about 10 minutes. Overall I agree I love the country.

The $10 entry fee is nothing, and it is advertised EVERYWHERE online. It should not be something you are complaining about. The exit fee is included in your return airline ticket, as almost every country and airline does on earth. Based on what I hear from other travelers, you were more or less 'that' exception guy. I will say that something as unremarkable as a second cellphone will make them zero-in on you. It may make little sense to many travelers, but that is the way it is. You are correct when you mention your CPAP and other things such as cameras, especially of a professional quality. Best advice is (for anyone) is do your homework and don't take anything you don't need. Leave that CPAP at home (if you can't live without it, you probably shouldn't travel to poorer countries). Seriously. I have one, and it stays at home. People still try to bring drones in to this day, although it is strictly prohibited (but they happily return them when you leave!) - and then they complain about their experience at customs. Why? Additionally, your flights (the number and stopovers) can be considered 'of interest' to the authorities of ANY nation. You were underway for a long time - that is what drug and money mules do to obscure their real destinations. Something to consider. You stated that your demeanor could have been some of the reason Senor Grumpy treated you the way he did. I would say, 100%. Try having an attitude in Moscow, Tehran or JFK... been there, done that. It will get you what you don't want. As for the rest...9 people working, empty table, 11pm....welcome to Latin America. Don't take it so personal. You seem like a great guy, but you need to temper your expectations, especially in a country that is hated and embargoed by the US government and which has tried to orchestrate political unrest. They have a right to be circumspect. Best of luck to you!

Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video and share your thoughts! Your deep knowledge and extensive travel experience are evident, and it’s clear you’ve been on quite a few adventures. I truly appreciate your insights and the perspective you’ve provided. The intention behind the video was never to complain, but rather to share my personal experience and observations. I totally agree that the entry fee and other specifics are well-known to frequent travelers, I dont feel like I really "complained" about the $10 entry fee, more so just mentioned it. Your point about the impact of carrying extra items like a CPAP and the perception of long flights is well taken. It’s definitely helpful advice for anyone planning to visit similar destinations. I don't always bring the CPAP along, but I Purchased a mini one for travel, and if there is room, it comes along. If not I get along fine without it! Thank you again for your view and thoughtful feedback. It’s always great to hear from someone with such a thorough understanding of travel nuances. Best of luck on your future adventures as well!
