I've lived near Nice for quite a few years. I am from Scotland originally. Really the best point is that is has a variety of rides from the high summer peaks to accessible 900m climbs in the winter. We often do the Col de La Madone as a Christmas day mission, or a tour of the Esterel area. Riding near the coast in August though is a bit nuts sometimes. Too hot and busy so if you must do it, start super early.

Thanks for showing us Nice, Ollie. It does look ideal for training with its climbs and eateries and sunshine and luxe life vibe. And for a name for cream, I'd suggest MoonShine.

I'm actually on holiday in Nice at this very moment. I rode up col de Vence and Aspremont today. Not very fast though. Beatiful autumn colours.

Been to Monaco and cycled out to Nice a couple of times. I liked it more, it’s much more down to earth, not so alien.

Other details - you can get there by train via Eurostar and TGV (change at Lille and Marseille or Avignon). You could also stay in Menton rather than Nice - I'll be in Rocquebrune-Cap-Martin as usual in the summer :-) The climbs are as good as they look in this video - the views are even better but difficult to capture how truly stunning they are!

I was just in Nice. What a fantastic place. And there's definitely enough flat courses, if that's what you're after. The entire coastal area west of Nice is 100% flat

IMO the only drawback to a cycling holiday in Nice is how expensive everything is! But I agree the roads/cafes/food is brilliant

I would call my chamois cream; 'Maggots Crevice Ointment'. - as 'Maggot' was my nickname when i raced, basically because i got myself onto the result sheet where i really had no business being! thanks Ollie, mark

I just watched this again, Ollie, and truly, you present Nice like a local and that is remarkable for someone who has been there just six times or so. And I'm wondering, for a rider(s) who would just need a place for sleep and shower, are there any hostels or similarly priced accommodations? Or what sort of lodging costs did you encounter through Airbnb?
@OllieBridgewood7 жыл бұрын
Cheers Robb. I haven't had experience of hostels, however there are loads of awesome airbnbs out there, so I would be inclined to check those out. In terms of food costs, it varies. Some of the small supermarkets are pricey, but the larger ones are fine.

Ollie, I'm thinking to head there (partly because of this vid, thanks) with my partner in May. She's been cycling a couple of year but not done anything like mountains. Are there some climbs inland from Nice that are pretty steady 4-7% range that we could do without biting off too much that would be daunting? Or are they all pretty steep once you get inland?
