Ok, one more example of KZbin reading my mind…… I was just THINKING to myself that once I have a few mechanical things taken care of on my 02 Sonoma, I was going to check into replacing my OEM stereo system with an Apple Car Play capable unit. And sure enough, this video landed on my suggested play list. 😂

Dude this is an awesome video for several reasons. First you communicated expertly how to install this unit into a 2nd Gen S10. Believe it or not it is not well known that double din radios can go into these trucks. Even the "experts" at the large on line audio stores do not seem to know this. Secondly you had your very bright sons there to help you. I always enjoy seeing dad's teach their son's things they need to know. I am going to subscribe to your channel for that reason alone. I have one other comment that I would hope you would not take offense to. Changing out the steering wheel with the airbag for that (albeit very nice looking) sport steering wheel flies in the face of your stated objectives at the beginning of the video- primarily taking safety for your son into top consideration. Air bags are no joke. They save injuries and lives every single day in America.

Just seeing this, not crazy about this radio. It was cheap and doesn’t have options I really like in my radios. Will be swapping it out eventually.

What is actually securing the radio? I didn’t see a bracket of any sort. Is it loose in the cavity?

11min in you’ll see the plastic bracket that holds the radio in. It’s tight for sure

I have a 94 that i am in the middle of 5.3 swapping. I will keep thisbin mind when its time to upgrade the stereo.

@NiceGarage truck was originally a 2.2 5 speed. Am going to a 5.3/4l60e. Since I needed a shifter I swapped in a floor shift center console from a Jimmy and some bucket seats from a Cavalier. Seats bolted right in with no mods. Used the S10 seat tracks on the Cavalier seats. I had to drill a couple holes to mount the shifter and console to the floor. Also swapped in a 90s 4 spoke steering wheel because the 94 s10 wheel was UGLY. Swapped in a 8.5 rear from a 02 4.3 5 speed s10 and Blazer dual piston calipers up front. Still very much a work in progress but should be a fun ride when I'm done.

@stevenmeeks8954 not yet, getting close, though. All I've got left is to clean up the wiring and make an exhaust for it. Just installed the fuel system yesterday. New tank, pump, filter and lines. The fuel level gauge even works.

The install kit is still available on Amazon. I bought it a long time ago. The radio I don’t like but it came from Crutchfield. It was the cheap one and it different from all my others. Wouldn’t recommend this model.

Any possible way for a 7" to fit in there? or is 6.2" the biggest you can go?

Good question, the install kit was for a standard double din. I think 7” is still a double din correct? And I believe there was room for modification. Hope that helps

I’m wanting to install a double din on my 94 sonoma also did you just color match all wires? Red to red, yellow to yellow etc.? Or was there a wire that you had to wire another way such as an ignition switch wire?

If it’s a double din, then yes. That dash kit works from 94-97

All the ones I’ve seen that were larger than a typical double din usually have a single or double din housing, I think there is room for the screen in front of the Metra kit

Hey man I have a 1996 Chevrolet blazer and have tried absolutely everything but my unit just doesn't turn on, all my fuses are good and I have no idea what to do, you have any tips?

Did you check which wire is not getting power? Red or yellow? A long time ago before harnesses I’d tie directly in the fuse box to power something. Should be something causing that though.

I have the same dash in my 96 GMC Sinoma SLS Highrider 4X4 Ive been wanting to find something to install like I have in my 02 Sonoma 4X4 4 door . I had Best Buy install my big screen blue tooth stereo and dash speakers , I did my own door speakers 🔊 its great can answer the phone hands free .

Def not this radio, I’m a huge Pioneer guy but this one is bottom of the barrel. Can’t change the colors of the buttons and just too simple for me. If you were going with pioneer, get a higher model.

My dash is non existent, so I'm trying to find a donor or pay a auto upholstery n modern the interior dash n door panels.

Sorry, just seeing this. It’s an external mic. I usually mount them up in the corner where the visor meets the A pillar.

Do you mean screen size? Standard double din, so it the screen is bigger than ours, but still standard, it will fit. Actually I didn’t like that radio so we bought a different one. I’ll do a review of that one and install of new one
