I have seen a lot of these entryway tables being built but I think yours was the best. The cross braces were PERFECT ! Well done !

Very nice stuff. I really appreciate the doweling jointery. Seems like some folks are using way too many pocket holes these days. I've done some doweling on my video for a loft bed ladder that I made for my daughter. I love the look of the dowel ends, too.

I have started getting into building furniture. It seems intimidating, but its not that hard. It just takes time and patience. Even with high lumber prices, its far cheaper than any furniture store! And the all wood construction is absolutely rock solid.... For me it started when my king size mattress frame broke. I discovered just how cheaply built it was. A new one is expensive. I worked through a sinus infection while building mine. It took working on and off about 3 days. If I weren't sick, about a day. But I am convinced it could support an elephant lol

haha! Just mark the lines as best as you can on the piece you're working on. Then just sneak up to the line. That t-bevel gauge is a must for these half laps

Not sure if you meant to do this but nice syncopy of the base note of the background music and the note the jointer produces at 2:47. They hit on the same pitch and it makes for a very cool effect.

It's really satisfying when you get everything dialed in for the cuts. The T-Bevel is so helpful when it comes to finding the appropriate angle to cut.

What is that thing you rigged up on the table saw? Does it keep it straight as you push and pull?
@NicGutierrez3 жыл бұрын
My cross-cut sled? Yeah, it's a lot safer to use when cross cutting pieces on the table saw. Or you could use a miter saw to complete the cut.

If you don't mind me asking how much would you charge for this
@NicGutierrez4 жыл бұрын
I only charged $150 for this piece. It was for a neighbor of mine who replaced our shared fence by himself so I made this table as a bit of a favor. I wouldn't take anything less than $300 if it was a normal commission.

Do you like the music? Or is it just easier than saying something. Such as describing what you are doing.
@NicGutierrez5 жыл бұрын
I do a little of both in my videos I guess. I didn't really have too much of a plan here with this video. Just kind of recorded, edited and uploaded pretty quick. Should I copy the video and narrate over it and upload? or should I just post subtitle scripts to the video? What are your thoughts?
@ctvwrest4 жыл бұрын
I think subtitle scripts are fine for most projects, but definitely don't bother going over and redoing. Very nice work brother.
@woodandwheelz3 жыл бұрын
@@NicGutierrez I think the subtitle scripts were fine and a voice over would've been fine too. But as shawn n said, definitely don't bother redoing it. The video got right to the point. I honestly didn't like the music choice, but I see others did, but it also didn't take away from the video. I just muted it and enjoyed the build. I think you should do a short video on the half lap joints. When I first started woodworking, eons ago, I was taught to notch the dowels so the glue has somewhere to go. Not all the way to the end so you can see the notch on the exposed finish end, but on the better part of what goes into the hole. Otherwise you're just compressing the glue and possibly creating an air pocket behind the dowel and there isn't much glues actually holding the dowel in. This is just my 2 cents. I was taught this by a carpenter. The premade dowels you used had this in the form of a cork screw pattern. I'm definitely not criticizing the build, I loved it and am going to attempt one myself, I'm just offering a little advice. Creating the notch I'm talking about is easy. In a scrap piece of wood, just drill a hole slightly larger than the dowel and run a nail from the side so that the tip of the nail will scratch or notch the dowel when you pass it through. You can control the depth and length of the notch this way. Again, great build and thank you for sharing. And you got a new subscriber. 😁
@Stoplurkinbro3 жыл бұрын
For a hobby piece it’s nice but the fact that you think that is ok to sell to a client is ridiculous. The top and bottom shelf are warped, some of the dowels were not drilled straight , which would make them look more oval ish and it should have been finish sanded. I would have been fired if I built something like that to sell
@deborahplyler65284 жыл бұрын
nice project whats the measurements of the boards you used?
@NicGutierrez4 жыл бұрын
I believe I used 2x6 material for everything. The "X" supports were cutoffs from the 2x6's too.
@gonzalez-valdez80435 жыл бұрын
Nice...if I want to add a shelf in the middle how would you go about adding it to the design?
@NicGutierrez5 жыл бұрын
Oh, nice idea! Maybe work in some dadoes on the leg assemblies and then you'd be able to slide the shelf in. Make sure to make this cut on the legs before glueing up the base. Depending on which face/edge you dado, you could drill out holes, glue and insert dowels like I did to match the rest of the joinery. Or just butt joint and screw ; )

@@NicGutierrez still a nice design. Maybe next time, joint one edge and square it with the saw then joint the face and plane it after that
@mulekickhandmadeguitars84655 жыл бұрын
@@NicGutierrez I saw the cupped top as well, but one thing I considered is that this is pretty much a "farmhouse" design, and not "fine furniture". Farmhouse furnishings were usually built out in the barn, by the farmer himself. Not by a professional carpenter. A few flaws are always part of the "farmhouse charm".
