Maybe this isn't where your interests lie but honestly I would absolutely recommend you get into sewing and creating your own items. When you are into diverse, niche clothing, especially when it belongs to styles or subclutures form the past like you are, it can be the only way to have clothing that fits your own personal style. Honestly it can be a bit daunting when you're first starting out but getting thrifted items and taking them apart/ making them into something new can be a great place to start and helps you understand how garments are put together. There are also a huge amount of sewing tutorials and stuff on KZbin and elsewhere online. From there you can pick items from your pinterest that you love but could never afford or find in person as inspiration and create something similar. Plus it helps you have a wardrobe that is truly unique and tailored to you!

Yesss I tried sewing one time and immediately gave up lol 😆 I've done just about every craft but for some reason the textile crafts are so intimating to me (crocheting, knitting, sewing... u get it, anything with a stich will confuse me) BUT you are so right!! I truly value unique items and I feel like if I put my mind to it I can definitely do it!! Reading your comment gave me the strength lol 😆 I'll prob make a video about it in the future, thank you so much 💗🫶

came back to say... i have been wearing whatever i like, expressing myself through fashion and seeing it as art, for at least 10 years now. i am used to weird stares atp. and honestly i discover something new everyday! with the "trend" of finding your style/aesthetic, i realized even more... i dont fit in a box. i just wanna do what i like! and honestly you, your style and your channel resonate with me so much, it actually have been inspiring me to embrace this side. it's clear that you also just go for what you like, and i think its beautiful !!

The punk scene in London and Vivienne Westwood's fashion design emerged simultaneously and alongside - punk started being a thing in the 70s, not before. Also some of the first punk rock personas bought stuff in her shop.
@Quiffanairy
@Quiffanairy 14 күн бұрын
This is true, however she is also correct that Vivienne's first proper fashion show was the post-punk pirate themed show. It shows that Vivenne Westwood was at the forefront of modern fashion at the time and instrumental in evolving with it.

heavy on the kpop part- seeing the same friends who would tease me for liking it being bigger fans than me now is crazy. I've become more of a casual listener too- it was already a saturated and artificial market but i feel like 4th/5th gen has taken it to another level. stylistically i honestly don't think anyone is doing it better than aespa. i would pay an arm and a leg for their cd player and their supernova concept outfits were soooooooo pretty and intergalatic i loved it. cop copine is so cute - i really admire their graphic pieces even tho it's something i wouldn't wear myself, they also do a rlly nice job with their more casual pieces (too pricey for me tho loll). really love ur video essay style uploads, u have a very coherent way of talking that's easy to listen to

I think what's next in fashion is more global marketing of quality, yet affordable clothing shops, which have those unique designs that get copied and mass-produced. The reason why so many fashion kids end up buying trash quality stuff from the mall is because we don't know where else to find the unique creative piece we want to express ourselves with. One of my goals in the future, as a fashion business major, is to make a strategy for these unique brands to stand out and be easily found by fashion enthusiasts. Yes, maybe some will become "mainstream" but from consumers stand point, it will be quality of life experience - to find easily the pieces for your personalised wardrobe.
@flowlotl
@flowlotl 13 күн бұрын
Omg I love this!!! Everytime I go to the mall I'm always underwhelmed with the shops and the lack of diversity -- maybe it's just because I live in a more suburban-less-trendy area but I'd much rather go thrifting bc at least ill have more luck finding something unique. Fast fashion has def ruined the whole specialty and excitement of mall culture!! I feel like something has to eventually change about it and it makes me so happy that people like you feel a passion towards it 🫶 thank u for sharing ur perspective I enjoyed reading it lol ☺️

i have a pair of crocs that i loveeee sm. i bought a bunch of plain jibbitz(?) so that i can glue anything i want onto them!! also abt diy-ing stuff that look diy-able, it must be one of my fav things in the world... not only its cheaper but also super fun, you can add your own touch and the whole process is somehow artistic and therapeutic to me. when i think that nothing in the world belongs to me, i remind myself that my art does. and more than my art, the time and the effort i put onto making something is all mine. that is 100 times more special than just buying something i liked

Monica can i just say that i love the way you explain/talk through things! i really relate to everything you said here about personal style and you have some great references :)) i think its difficult recently to find your own style or pieces you like when there are so many categories and "cores", but ive recently been trying to embrace the clashing interests i have and i think fashion can be so much more fun when you dont try to cater your tastes to explicitly following or avoiding certain trends, like you said here. and i loved hearing you mention fruits magazine as it does feel like one of the very genuine and fun outlets for creative fashion. personally i have been getting into diys with eyelets, safety pins, chains etc and its such a fun process to experiment with. id also recommend the brand desigual if you dont know them, as i recently thrifted a skirt by them and it feels sorts of similar to the energy of cop copine to me. sorry this is long but great video and i hope you have a good week

You give me so much fashion inspo, your creativity has so much depth, I feel like you give me permission, a lotta times I'll think, "nah, that's too far out, I can't do that" and you give me permission, "If Monica can do what is most authentically her, I can do what nobody else does, but is authentically me". I'm not Coquette, but I like the whimsy, the combo innocent/sexy vibe, the blush versions of colors, and incorporate that into my own look which is def not Coquette. You give me "permission" to go outside the rules. ty ty ty, you are such a creative inspiration, keep doing what you do!! Create with reckless abandon!!❤❤!

You should try to sew on your clothes too, is hard at first, but you can do it ,you could custom some leather jackets with the gold/silver spikes or that, is something i'm planing to do , but in time. I love the way you explained you don't follow trends, but follow what you like ,is what i did too,even if it make peoples dislike me ,because i don't go with their likes, but mines.

It goes from the punk movement to the birth of the New Wave and Soho scene in London, it's really good :) and ik you said you're a casual listener now but if I can suggest some good kpop concepts :p TXT are actually insane: ★Freeze World ver. I kind of understand what you mean about aesthetics not being personal, but I find your logic kind of contradicting. Wanting to look as weird and unconventional as possible isn't necessarily authentic either, it also becomes a show very quickly.
@flowlotl
@flowlotl 10 күн бұрын
I definitely see where your coming from!! I agree with you that fashion isn't something very authentic because personal style is shaped by your environment, people around you, how you grew up.. ect there's so many external factors that go into who we are and what we choose to wear. Essentially there's almost nothing personal about personal style. However I don't think it's a ingenuine thing to strive for a unconventional style as long as it's something you truley desire. When I think of unconventional, I think of lady gaga, maison margiela, alexander mcqueen, and many other designers and figures. I think it's all about intention -- whether or not they're doing it just for a superficial shock value moment or a real desire to dress outside of fashion norm. And also a lot of fashion is putting on a show!! Fashion, to me, is a spectacle! But that's just my perspective lol sorry if I got a bit passionate and thank you for sharing!! 🩷
