What you did not specified was that the very instant when Dr. Martin Luther King persuaded Michelle Nichols to stay on Star Trek was no ordinary conversation. It was a _bed conversation_ . Nichols used to get around a lot, with both bachelors and married men, while MLK's adulterous penchants and womanizing are no secret. Gene Roddenbury kept her on Star Trek partly because she grew to become soon one of his favorite mistresses.

Her son put her in a conservatorship, sold her LA home and moved her to New Mexico. He isolated her from her friends for years. He even dragged her out of a comicon for talking to a friend that showed up, all while yelling at the friend and her. She still very much was sane & shouldn’t have been in a conservatorship . Rest in power!

Nichelle was the epitome of a true LADY --- she had such style, beauty and grace. She was my very first "role model" as a young child, and I soooooo wanted to look and be like her at the early age of 6. When my mother told me this would be impossible because we were of a different _ethnicity_ --- I couldnt and didnt know WHAT that meant at the time as a young child whose parents had immigrated to the States just 2 years earlier. I became so angry at my mother when she told me this, that I didnt speak to her for 4 months. Then one day, she bought me an African doll and it became my favorite doll throughout my entire childhood. I named her Uhura. I still have her 32 years later. I cried so much when I heard of Ms. Nichols passing...this _woman_ misses her badly! Rest among the Stars Beautiful Lady, you were a SUPERNOVA!!! 💛❤💛❤

During the 60's, I first viewed her in Star Trek. This beautiful lady, impressed me very much. I was elated, that Nichelle was allowed to be presented as a highly intelligent, skilled, Black woman. I had never, observed a "sista" in such a proffesional role. Lastly, she inspired all types of women to pursue careers, in science, and technology. Because of Nichelle, the barriers which have plagued women for centuries in this country, eventually, met enormous change. Her positive actions, resulted in tremendous opportunities for future women.

Trekkie here 🖖 and Nichelle Nichols admirer. I remember reading her autobiography, but the part about her brother I either don't remember or it was omitted. She also dated Mr. Trek himself, Gene Roddenberry. Also, Lieutenant Uhura was supposed to be Spock's love interest (as hinted at in the pilot with her singing and Spock playing backup). Gene wanted it, but the network shot it down. Luckily, they revived this plotline in the modern ST Zaldana/Quinto reboots. 🥰 Many men courted her, not just fictional aliens and their makers.

A stunningly beautiful woman. I wonder if she had Mixed Indian heritage In her autobiography, Nichols stated that she was romantically involved with Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry for several years in the 1960s. She said the affair ended well before Star Trek began, when she and Roddenberry realized he was in love with Majel Hudec, who was an acquaintance of Nichols'. Majel starred in the original Star Trek too

I was a teenager in the 1960s and because of Star Trek with Nichelle's character on the bridge of the Enterprise, I saw a reason to use my brain and become whatever I wanted. She affected my life in the most favorable way. I am a blond, white woman who eventually ran my own business and later returned to college and became a teacher with Los Angeles Unified. In the sixties women were mostly secretaries, waitresses, and factory workers. Thank you Nichelle and thank you Martin Luther King for encouraging her to stay with Star Trek.
