One of the things that made me love Dipper is his snarky and sardonic attitude, which perfectly complements Mabel's goofiness and optimistic outlook. Also, it's pretty much the norm for a lot of children's cartoons to have their kid protagonist have an upbeat and sunny personality, but what makes Dipper so fantastic is that pulls no punches when it comes to displaying his contempt for certain things or people or pointing out the improbability of something in a very matter-of-fact manner. He takes no bs and I love him for that.

Dipper is probably one of the first cartoon characters I related to. His determination to get shit done and be honest is some real shit. Dipper was always my favorite character just from how he took no shit. Sure, he was self conscious, anxious, and wanted to fit in. But when it mattered, he stood his ground. He was willing to tell it to you straight exactly what he thought of you, and even if it was hurtful, it was probably true. He was one of the most cynical cartoon protagonists, which is an amazing contrast from how most cartoon protagonists are. Most are simply happy, naive, and then when you get farther into the series, they show their secret sad side for one episode and then it's never spoken about again. Dipper was relatable though, he may have not been the cheerful, happy protagonist, but he genuinely was funny with all of his sarcastic comments! He is determined, gets to the roots of the problem, and tries his best in pretty much every situation. And he was flawed. He wasn't perfect, which cartoons admittedly get better about making imperfect characters throughout the series, but Dipper is a perfect example. While he likes to think things through, come at a problem from multiple different angles, he sometimes goes for the easiest solution without thinking of the consequences. He doesn't think twice about cheating to beat Robbie, and instead immediately uses the opportunity granted to him to defeat Robbie. He was willing to make a deal with a dream demon, something he knew almost nothing about except that it was extremely powerful and very likely dangerous, just to get into a computer. He has his flaws, but he overcomes them, makes the situation better in the end. And he sacrifices so much, especially for his sister. He had the opportunity to learn from one of the greatest minds of all time, someone he looked up to, and yet he turned it down because Mabel didn't want to be alone. I love Dipper's character so much :)

This is just my opinion, but I think that, while superficially Dipper is like Ford and Mabel is like Stan, there’s a level where it’s the other way around. Ford and Mabel are both kind of the “golden child”, Ford because of his brains and Mabel because of her ability to bond with people. They are also both quite trusting, with a tendency to see the best in people, but can also be a little selfish. Dipper and Stan, on the other hand, see themselves (rightly or wrongly) as the less favoured sibling. They are both a bit more grounded and realistic, but also more cynical, and lack the self-worth and self-confidence of their siblings.

I just rewatched GF with my little sister, and this is one think I really liked about Dipper's character : He doesn't care about how much the truth hurts, he is honest with others when he needs to (it is most of the time used for commedy sake but he still his honest with others), HOWEVER, when it comes to being honest about himself, there's no more of that confidence. And seeing this personality trait evolve throughout the show really made Dipper a more enjoyable character !

Man I love this show. It really portrays the children well. Even one who considered himself more “mature” is prone to being tactless, judgmental, and at times outright mean. But that doesn’t mean he’s a total bully, nor does it make him any more of a fool than the average 12-year-old. Because kids can be smarter than we give them credit for, and more compassionate than we expect, and just because they don’t have a lot of stuff figured out yet doesn’t mean they aren’t fully fledged people worthy of respect. The two seasons this show aired for literally were when I was 12-13, the same transition to teenagedom the characters went through. And this show helped me so much in terms of figuring out what “growing up” actually meant when I was already considered “mature for my age.”

I've always preferred Dipper to Mabel, and I personally think he's one of the top 3 best characters on the show. Here's why: -He has very relateable moments, such as feeling peer pressure and a desire to look cool in front of others, and has very ordinary responses. His crush on Wendy is very good, because it's a realistic version. Here he likes someone, who he's very good friends with, but she turns him down because she's too old for him. Then he moves past it, and accepts it. Meanwhile Mabel always suceeds in her romances and they're always very out of the ordinary, which makes them too fake to me. -He's really selfless and very decent and moral as a person would be. This includes when he finds out Robbie is hypnotising Wendy, he rightfully goes to tell her, because this is a violation of her consent. He helps Mabel sneak Mermando out of the pool, even though he'll be fired, he willingly gives up his chance to have a perfect day with Wendy at the fair for Mabel to get her pig, he fights to get Soos his wish because he wants Soos to be able to have a happy birthday with his dad like he wanted, he refuses to kill the multibear despite that it would allow him to become like he wanted, he fights Rumble in order to stop him from harming Robbie, he does a lot for others. In contrast with Mabel who never sacrifices anything or does something for him, and even when his soul had been ripped out of his body and he talked to her while posessing sing the puppet wasn't willing to help him get his body back until after her puppet show. He also is very against love potions, even with the knowledge of the chance to be with Wendy, knowing that it's wrong and essentially violating their rights, and tells Mabel not to do it, while Mabel doesn't care and essentially roofies Tambry and Robbie to falling in love.e has to use his wits, he frequently has to outsmart and come up with ideas, unlike Mabel who just optimistically runs along. -He has many times where he learns, grows, and shows courage, like when he throws himself at Gideon or when he learns he doesn't need to act too old or too cool to fit in. -He helped Pacifica change, and has helped others grow, and he never asks for anything in return.

You are wrong about one thing. Mabel also grew as a character and faces the consequences. She does also sacrifices for others. She may has her selfish moments but she is a good sisterm As he is a good brother. So saying that Mabel didn't do anything good to him or anyone else is an absolute nonsense. It is either you are blinded by the toxic comments or your focus on her flaws only. I simply don't care if this would open your eyes to what I said above. I am writing all of this the because I get tired of ignorants like you.

Dipper is probably the most real character in the show, I don't see how anyone could possibly dislike him. Mabel on the other hand i cant vibe with, a lot of her actions come off as selfish and in some cases manipulative. It’s like everything has to go her way, she’s like Pacifica but less bratty. Speaking of her bubbly personality, I don’t like how overly happy she is, it’s kind of obnoxious. I don’t necessarily hate Happy characters, I’ll take them over brooding characters any day, but she’s just too over the top to the point where it’s not normal. Lastly, and this is kind of subjective, I don't think her humour lands as well as other characters. Mabel’s humour is that very immature, over the top silly random humour, which I’d probably find funny if I was little, but i don’t at my current age. As for characters like Dipper and Stan, a lot of their humour is a bit more nuanced and gets to me more. I also feel like the dumb fun humour is handled better with Soos.

What I like about Dipper and also Alex Hirsch mentioned it is that he is smart, but also silly without falling in nerd stereotypes. He is cool in his own way and sneezes like a kitten. :3
