That's why I feel awful. He didn't want it. He wanted his brother to take it and he willingly abdicated. He refused. And why would Nicholas think democracy would help? Any westernizing was seen as damage as his ancestors died when they tried to implement. Causation isn't correlation. For a long time all I knew about the Tsar and Empress were "bloody Nicky" and Rasputin. In the 80s or 90s A and E had a series called The Last Russian Tsar. It was far different then what I was taught . Years later I purchased a book on their love letters. This led me to read two more biographies. I became convinced they were saints. I can't remember when or how I learned the bodies had been discovered.i closely followed that story also. I read memoirs written by a female friend, I think Anna, and one of the tutors, I think his name wad Peter,who made it out alive and recorded his memoirs about his time with the family. I remain a devout Roman Catholic with a strong devotion to this family. They have proved to be strong intercessors especially Holy Royal Duchess Marie. I frequently ask her to intercede for one of my daughters each time she responds quickly. I also read a biography of Grand Duchess Olga, the Tsars sister, who escaped and migrated to Canada. She died in poverty. In Canada. I ordered your book The Holy Martyrs. I highly recommend the book . A dream of mine is to make a pilgrimage to The Church on the Blood.

@bar10ml44 Жыл бұрын
Aloofness was their downfall
@SmartPracticeSuccess8 ай бұрын
As someone else stated, aloofness was their downfall, directly contributing to their murder. It’s important to distinguish between their personal, private lives and their public lives as rulers. Nicholas and Alexandra were very much in love and had a beautiful family and happy home life. Quite an idyllic personal life by all accounts. But Nicholas was ill-prepared for life as Tsar and made horrendous decisions, took bad advice, etc. He clung to autocratic rule with absolute authority in the face of changing times, to his great detriment. Alexandra was gripped by overwhelming fear for her son and embraced Rasputin who seemed to be the only one who could offer help. The Russian populace was aware of Rasputin’s character and her refusal to acknowledge the problem or explain Alexei’s situation at all exacerbated the problem. Instead of offering at least some information and explanation to the people, she withdrew almost entirely, focused only on her own problems. Neither ever acknowledged or sought to alleviate the suffering of tragedies like the trampling of people at their coronation. Worse, they attended a ball that night. And they continued to make similar, poor ruling decisions up until their murder. Admittedly, they didn’t seem to have malicious intent, but they were utterly incompetent as rulers. They completely failed to see and acknowledge the changing times, instead falling back on autocratic rule with absolute power, outdated even then. They cruelly ignored people’s suffering, causing PR nightmares without realizing what a big problem they created. Bluntly, they made supremely STUPID decisions as rulers. Alexei’s health should have been at least been minimally explained. Rasputin should have been banished. The tragedies and people’s suffering should have been acknowledged and alleviated to the extent possible and balls should have been cancelled. Autocratic rule and absolute power should have been relinquished in favor of some form of democracy. Etc. Most of all, Nicholas and Alexandra should NOT have withdrawn from the public or cocooned themselves away from public life. Eventually, it all added up. Their fate and the end of the Romanov family was an absolute tragedy. However, their own behavior as rulers directly contributed to their murder.

The viewer needs to understand: *This is from the perspective of the Family and largely in the frame of mind of the era.* Although their loss of life is unspeakably horrible, *it is obvious they had no clue of the hundreds of years of suffering their Country's peoples endured.* Russia, large mass of land, a variety of Peoples, countless subject matters to attend to, with zero preparation or aptitude to do so. He needed an Advisor, a Head of State, and Regional Govenors. Then he could focus on the Arts. It was tragic in both directions, as it fostered opportunities for the Narcissists to rise to destroy the innocent and Oppress the entire Public. They were completely storybook and this is a real world... Tragedy Formula They were hated for all that suffer due to their complete unknowing what they reigned over. From the perspective of the 90% hungry and freezing they had to appear as fully self obsessed and utterly imbicels. The story is tragic from every angle. ...and now, the Ruler of Russia is a cold as Stalin. He is merely more competent and knows the world is watching. And they bought them from the survivors or other sellers. Queen Mary didn’t steal them off Alexandra’s corpse! Even IF King George V decided not to accept the family for asylum- and that story changes every decade - it wasn’t a matter of a cousin not taking in his cousin’s family. It was a matter of another country accepting deposed rulers who had the reputation of being murderous autocrats. No a lot of the subjugation of human rights was not Nicholas the person’s fault but it was done in his name. George had to think about his own people. And if the PM had wanted to send a ship for Alexandra and the children, he could have done so. The PM had the authority to do that- he technically didn’t need George’s permission

Nicholas’ father didn’t see him as “ mature” enough or “ready.” In addition, Nick’s father thought he had more time. It was unexpected, for the Tsar, who was otherwise strong and healthy, to come down with kidney disease/failure, and die in his 40s. At the time Tsar Alexander (Nick father) died from kidney failure, there was no such thing as dialysis. In addition, film 1930s 🇺🇸 film star died at about age 25 or 26 from the same thing that killed Tsar Alexander, and there still was no dialysis THEN either! I’ll have to look into the approximate year that kidney dialysis bec available to help ppl with kidney disease.

The czar's mother Marie and daughter Xenia, as well as Nicholasha, head of the armed forces before Nicholas took over that job, were in Crimea and the Bolsheviks were late in arriving there, so the royals in Crimea were kept under observation but could stay in their mansions. Then they were allowed to leave, and were picked up by a British cruiser and got away. George's courtiers basically told him he could not risk inviting the tsar and his family to England because the tsar was considered an autocratic tyrant by the British people. Royal houses were falling all over Europe in WW1 and George's courtiers were afraid that the British people would do away with the monarchy too. So George drew away from support of his cousin. Later, after hearing of the murders, he regretted the decision. Read the book, The Russian Court at Sea by Frances Welch, for the story of the Crimean escape. Immediately after the abdication might have been the perfect time for the tsar and his family to flee Russia. However, the children were all deathly ill with the measles and were unable to travel, even by train to Crimea, for example. And Nicholas and his family could not imagine leaving Russia and living in exile anywhere. They were basically in shock at their loss of power, and the government was so unstable that they may not have thought that leaving immediately was the best thing to do. They basically wanted to retire to Livadia in the Crimea and live as farmers and landowners but the Bolsheviks would never allow that. I believe Lenin had it "in" for Nicholas and his family because Lenin's brother had been executed by the tsarist government for revolutionary activities. I think Lenin was gleeful to be able to get revenge for his brother's execution. What gets me about the Bolsheviks was that all they cared about was creating chaos and grabbing as much power as they could. Much infighting, murdering one another, etc. It was a mess and they had NO plan for governance. They actually believed that instituting the Russian revolution would cause revolution all over Europe and in America. They were dreamers and fools and led the way for Stalin, who murdered millions and millions of his own countrymen. And the Russian people have been suffering ever since. Putin is former KGB and has stolen Russia blind --he is one of the richest people in the world because he steals anything he wants from the Russian people.

And that is a lot of the reason why I don't believe in hereditary monarchy. Quite often the person who inherits the position does not want it, but it is considered a dereliction of duty if they don't assume it. And that is just stupid. No one else in the world is required to work at any job if they don't want it. This does not mean that they wouldn't be good at the job; but it is not what they would have chosen for themselves. Queen Elizabeth II is this type of person and her father, George VI, didn't want to be monarch either. He actually cried when he learned it was his fate. But poor Nicholas never wanted any part of it. He did it because he had no choice and then he had to pay for it with his life. If a hereditary heir does not want the hereditary position, then there should be absolutely no shame in passing it onto someone who does want it. And then there are people who want power and authority and then are disasters when they have it, e.g. Donald Trump. But hereditary monarchy is a ridiculous institution in our modern age.
@AlexanderSergeevRus4 жыл бұрын
@@victoriajean-pierre3518 If you mean the achievements of the era of Nicholas II, then I can write a lot and for a long time. Of course, I do not deny that there were many problems. I'll just list some of the achievements. He increased the funding of the Ministry of Public Education several times over. As a result, the coverage of the population with a network of schools has grown significantly. The share of literate recruits has also increased by several tens of percent. The percentage of students from non-aristocratic families has grown dramatically. At the same time, I would like to draw attention to the issue of compulsory general education. The State Duma and the State Council argued for a long time about this, but they never decided anything. They had great disagreements over timing and funding. The electrification of the country begins to be more active in comparison with the previous time. In dozens of large cities, trams began to run for the first time and electric lights shone at night. In terms of total electricity generation, Russia was ahead of France and Japan combined. But it lagged behind in per capita electricity generation (the eternal problem of Russia, lol). At the same time, Russia began to order (like in Germany) electric combines for harvesting and plowing. In Russia, the extraction of minerals and smelting of metals increased several times. At the same time, Nicholas II banned the export of crude oil from the country. Because of this, over the years, Russia has become the leader among the exporters of kerosene (it's like becoming the leader in the export of gasoline now). Most of the Trans-Siberian Railway was built. The era of Nicholas II is the beginning of the Silver Age of Russian literature. Akhmatova, Blok, Yesenin, Bulgakov, Bunin and many others. We can also note the successes in the field of agriculture. In some years of Nikolai's reign, Russia produced about half of all chicken eggs in the world. Russia was among the leaders in the cultivation and export of grain. For 20 years of His reign, the population of Russia has increased to 170 million people. And there was 120 million at the beginning. Every year the aristocracy lost more and more land. They passed on to the middle and lower classes of society. The deposits of ordinary people in banks grew. Also, Nikolai II became one of the founders of the modern system of international law. It was on his initiative that the International Conference was convened in The Hague. Nicholas came up with very radical measures for disarmament (even by modern standards), and therefore a small part of them was adopted. Before the First World War, Nicholas just hoped that it would be possible to agree at the negotiating table. But Wilhelm II ignored Nicholas's telegrams. But the portrait of Nicholas II still hangs in The Hague. By the way, it was Nicholas who in 1907 proposed the creation of the League of Nations. In 1921, US President Warren Harding warmly recalled at the Washington Conference the "Emperor of All Russia" and his noble aspirations. And one of the problems could be noted just the question of the quality of life of the common population, which became somewhat worse in the First World War. Serfdom slowed down many processes in Russia. And serfdom became much more acute after Ivan the Terrible's Oprichnina. The country needed to be rebuilt, and the government chose the easiest path. Then it became tougher because of the Time of Troubles. Then Peter the Great will merge the peasants and slaves into one estate. Of course, with an oblique attitude towards slaves. Serfdom reached its peak under Catherine the Great. But capitalism has already managed to lag behind Western Europe in many aspects. National and especially Jewish question. In Russia, Jews were welcomed only in 2 cases: if they had a higher education or accepted Orthodoxy. After the partitions of Poland under Catherine the Great, the majority of all Jews in the world ended up in Russia. It was the Jews who made up a large number of revolutionaries in the 19th and early 20th centuries. And they can be understood. A similar question was raised in Poland, Finland, Ukraine and the Caucasus. The living conditions of the workers were poor. But it should be understood that all Western countries have gone this way to Russia. Capitalism in its early stages was quite brutal with the lower strata.

I’m halfway through this documentary and enjoying it. There’s only one thing it left out. Bloody Sunday was not an entirely peaceful protest; there were burnings, lootings from rioters and many of leaders of the protest were Bolshevik activists-Father Gapon in particular. Also, the document the leaders drafted to the Czar and his cabinet had little to do with labor laws and factory reforms the way the people were led to believe-and instead called for government changes with communist methods.

Immortal Romanovs!

I visited Russia in 1977 when it was called the Soviet Union. Socialism was collapsing and the people were living like dogs with multiple families in each unit of tenement high rises. At that same time Moscow was cleaning up the city and refurbishing the public buildings everywhere to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Revolution. Even then, the Russians were smug about the socialist state. They were imperious about the murder of the Imperial Family and were still convinced that the Romanovs were evil. I was glad to see that all that changed some ten years later. How sad that the Romanovs were murdered. They died in vain. Rest in peace.

It resembles the “Princes in the Tower” in. England. Both were murdered in a power grab.
