i wouldnt say he was robbed- he deserved to be punished however that punishiment was way too harsh. And if you want to talk about applying the rules then there were some inconsistencies for instance, how can a ref alter the result of a fight that has already happened? that is ridiculous he should have been DQ from his division RIGHT AWAY, that would have been fair. But to DQ him AFTER the match? And then to give victor hugo another chance? That isnt right. It was the biggest let down in world's history for sure

The DQ decision is perfectly reflected with the almost completely empty stands. It looks like less people than it should be, if only friends and family of the fighters showed up. They are only hurting the sport.

I find it interesting that people ripping open their Gi's, slapping themselves, screaming like buffoons and having group dance parties in the name of celebration seems to fall under the umbrella of acceptable sportsmanlike behavior to the IBJJF, but the guy who sticks up his middle finger to the jackasses heckling him (also most likely competitors and coaches themselves) during competition gets taken out of the finals of two weight classes. There seems to be many other things the IBJJF could crack down on with this type of hard nose approach that would help the sport and the culture overall than this. Oh, he also choked Cyborg. People's champ. Hespect.

@@bounce12011 That is a valid point. When I go to Jiu-Jitsu World League or NABJJ Gi only tournaments there are far more people attending. I understand the dynamics of the audience is "built-in" with the other 2 organizations but every jiu jitsu practitioner I know loves Meragali Leandro Lo, Cyborg, Musumeci, Duarte, the Rotolo Bothers...just to name a few. These are the world's greatest all in one spot for a few days. I would love my kids to meet them, I would love to meet them. There is no business sense, no outreach, no giving a shit at all.

Total BS. Im not condoning what Meregali did, but perhaps a penaltyans not a DQ would have sufficed. And trash talking between athletes, referees and coaches alike is replete in IBJJF competitions and they do nothing about it. Nor does the IBJJF do anything to protect their athletes. Respectfully. I must not be the only person who find these matches unwatchable when it's ongoing and would rather watch highlights after the event? Submission grappling is way better to watch and more fan friendly. The product needs to be more fan friendly if they ever wanted to increase viewership (and ultimately revenue). We are already seeing it but it won't be long before this form of BJJ (gi under the IBJJF) gets left behind and becomes very small scale compared to other competitions/rulesets.
