Dear friend, I can't understand it either how could anybody give Spanos a dislike here, but I perfectly understand what ssaillensine said. It's exactly that Spanos is not pop who just pleases the ear and the eye but an artist who strikes the soul:-). Oscar Wilde said that art shouldn't be popular but the public should try to be artistic instead. It's difficult as we are not used to such art, but we should thank God that there are still artists in this world who serve the art,not only the market.

Dear Lia,thank you too. You are right.Great singing and very nice pictures too.I was in Venice with my husband on our honey moon and saw all this: canals, gondolas, etc.And you can also imagine how romantic it all was:-) Our hotel there was Tre arche, a building similar to those you see here with a gondolier. Before I hadn't known this Vivaldi's masterpiece yet as for the majority Vivaldi is associated with only his Four Seasons and Spanos's voice yet.Now I remember Spanos thinking of Venice:-)

Spanos is amazing as always. As for the dear friends who discuss about the staccato of the strings, my humble opinion (or not so humble, since I am busy studying and, most important, performing this kind of music for more than 20 years) is, that, playing legato would just discard the excitement and agony from this painful peace, transforming it to a cheesy aria. Moreover, b minor is the key of "sharp pain" in the baroque symbolism. Staccato is a way to express this.

Fine, delicate, light and a delight. The staccato in the strings is also heard in winter (at least some versions) of Vivaldi also. I liked the effect Thank you "suoidolem" for uploading and you "serenaluce" suggesting it to me. You are both apostles of Spanos, as is also "Plavos", of course. I was particularly caught up at around 4:20 when the scene opened of a Turneresque quality and Spanos voice flew like an egret rising from the water of the canal! Lovely.
