You should get a more secure back up than just 1 external drive, think about cloud storage, additional drives, if that drive crashes you are done. Don't do this before it's too late. But if as you say you they aren't that important then maybe you don't care if you lost the data. :)

Depending on the drive, computer OS and your specs that's an oddly specific question. MacOS has Gatekeeper. You can encrypt anything right on the device. Other devices may not be as capable out of the box and you'd need to look up a tutorial. From an opsec perspective, I think he'd be best served not sharing that with us. That's private.

​@@drewconway7135security people are like that. 😂 A lot of generic files can be locked up with pgp/gpg, zip+encrypt like 7zip, and I'd add that media specific stuff exists and works well too like a DRM lock or DAM (digital asset management) usually a platform. Hope this helps 😂
