How is it possible to feel nostalgic about a song from a time you never lived? Such a vibe of a song, and something people post every Friday as well.

You could be like an old soul living in a young body feeling the connection to a life you wish you lived in a time that has past, you can feel the same when an excellent scene of what a past generation lived through and you feel oohh this is what I want ! Also, there is some music that just imbodies a time, it becomes timeless.

A lot of people said that 80s Japanese city pop makes them feel nostalgic/reminds them of the memories that never existed but don't know why. Honestly I don't believe that's because it got some kind of magic or anything like that, but rather you most likely have really heard it or at least the sounds like it somewhere before, such as from Dragon Balls, Doraemon, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2, Yatsure Urusei, Kimagure Orange Road, Maison Ikokku, Regular Show, GTA Vice City, Nintendo games, movies, commercials,... or from the same type of music that your dad usually listens to. So yeah, mystery solved I guess!

For more nostalgic songs that bring you to the time you 'thought' you once lived through, you may wanna try out : Queen - Radio Ga Ga a-ha - Take On Me Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me U2 - Where The Streets Have No Name Jason Donovan - Sealed In A Kiss Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine Bruce Springteen - Born in the USA DaftPunk - Give Life Back To The Music Alliance - At Dawn (Russian)

In portuguese they use the word "Saudade" to reflect profound nostalgy for something that you love but isn't there anymore. The feeling can extend even to things you didn't knew existed, or wich you can imagine but are not real. The feeling of deeply missing something that never existed. In my opinion, bossanova and citypop are just this feeling, made real for the duration of a song.

I am Japanese. There were many talented people like her in Japan from the 70's to the 80's. She's just the tip of the iceberg. This is because singing ability was more important than the current emphasis on musicality, such as in ado and yoasobi. Nick, if you dig deeper into the music of that time, you'll be more surprised.😊

Tatsuro Yamashita is one of the GOAT song writers of the 80's. I would recommend listening to him over any other. He has way too many bangers to list, but I would check out "Sparkle" or "Ride on Time". Unfortunately his music isn't on streaming so it's hard to recommend him to people that only use Spotify, etc, but it is well worth it to track his stuff down. Tatsuro Co-Wrote and arranged "Plastic love" in collaboration with his wife Mariya. There is a recording of "Plastic Love" from 2000 of Tatsuro singing background vocals and playing guitar. He goes so ham at the end it's awesome.

I would like you to listen to a punk band called THE BLUE HEARTS. Although they were not able to appear on Japanese TV very often due to their radical lyrics, they had a great influence on Japanese youth at the time. Although they had already disbanded when I was born, I collected and listened to many records growing up. I feel that this artist still resonates with many people in this day and age.

If you do, I guess I'm not going to sleep tonight. 😵‍💫 To confirm a few things, "Plastic Love" showed up in everyone's KZbin recommendation. This song is responsible for many people becoming City Pop fans. A few years later Warner Bros Japan decided to release a video for it. The vocals you hear are from the original 80s recording but you have 2010s visuals. The singer, Mariya Takeuchi is married to Tatsuro Yamashita, singer of the previous track "Magic Ways". If you're interested in reacting to (or listening to for your personal enjoyment), there are live versions of "Stay With Me" by Miki Matsubara as well as "Plastic Love" by Mariya Takeuchi FEATURING Tatsuro Yamashita. The fact about plastic love recommendations is soo true. I remember a time when this random video with a beautiful lady's image as thumbnail titled plastic love will just be there in my recommendation. I was scared of it so I ignored it... For a LONG LONG time. Then I fell for curiosity one day. Haven't looked back since. Only regret the time I ignored it

You gotta listen to Anri. Her stuff is as fun and energetic as City Pop gets. I would recommend starting with her album TIMELY!! and going from there. Specifically, Driving My Love and Windy Summer should be enough to get you started

Japan is like a phoenix. Winning to China at the Sino-Japanese War in 1895 and defeating the world-strongest Russia in the Russo-Japanese War of 1905, Japan was the only nation of color managing colonies and the sole permanent member from a colored race in the League of Nations. With a GDP ranking fifth globally, Japan controlled half of Asia, approaching the construction of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. However, post-threat perceptions from the US led to trade embargoes, resource cut-offs, war, defeat, Tokyo's destruction, and atomic bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, sacrificing over 500,000 civilians, including women and children. Post-war, Japan lost everything, but in a mere decade, it remarkably rebounded to become the world's second-largest economy by the 1960s. In the 1970s, Japan dominated the world in automobiles and electronics, even manufacturing bipedal robots. Brands like Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Toyota, Nissan, and Mazda, along with anime and manga like Nintendo, Dragon Ball, and Akira, swept the world in the '80s. Japan, approaching the US in GDP, income per capita, and market capitalization rankings, earned double the income of Americans. Tokyo's land value surged, even today maintaining the world's highest city GDP, with New York in second place. Remarkably, the US and Japan are the only countries with a population exceeding 100 million and a per capita GDP surpassing $30,000. Despite US efforts to contain and weaken Japan, it sustains a position as the world's third-largest GDP, leading in net foreign assets and bank-held assets. Had the US, China, or Russia not hindered Japan, its growth might have been unparalleled. What we need is not the current America-led chaotic world but one led by Japan. A world built by Japan would likely be healthier, more orderly, technologically advanced, and culturally developed than the present, unlike dominated by the unsettling values, culture, and propaganda spread worldwide by the pathological US. Humanity should have lived in a world dominated by Japan rather than succumbing to the demonic influence of American politicians and corporations, as portrayed in the GAFAM-dominated world filled with compulsory dependence on smartphones, pornography, and social media. Listening to these city-pop tunes invokes a strangely nostalgic feeling, as if we are recalling a different route, a world we were supposed to live in. Our path has been a failure.

"Koi no DISCO QUEEN" another city pop diamond living in the yakuza game series btw. just remembered that pretty every insert song of the original sailor moon series basically lays on a citypop foundation.
