CAFÉ NOIR, composed by Nick Ariondo, features the doumbek mastery of PatSalis. The dumbek (or doumbek), is a small to mid-sized middle-eastern hand-drum played in various ethnic cultures from Greece to the Balkans and beyond (countries around the globe have their very own unique type of hand-drums of differing shapes, sizes, designs, tunings, etc...) CAFÉ NOIR blends today's contemporary music with shades of French Impressionism a la Claude Debussy & Maurice Ravel. Nick's music creates an overlaying of harmonies & textures with freedom of expression in a poised setting ~ an evening of meditation and relaxation amidst a café beyond the sea while reflecting upon one's most inner thoughts. Also considered as 'a little night music', the caressing rhythms of the doumbek compliments the sustaining accordion sound design, transporting the listener into a dreamlike fantasy .....Upon hearing Nick's CAFÉ NOIR version for accordion, viola & violin in concert, Arcadia Public Library Foundation President wrote to Nick: "You paid us a great tribute when you created that lovely piece -- your performance did much to educate our audience as to the beauty and importance of your instrument (the accordion)"... ..Meredith Babeaux Brucker, Kaleidoscope Concert Series. -- See another KZbin video link BALKAN-EASE by Nick Ariondo with PatSalis (Dumbek) • BALKAN-EASE for Accord...
