The difference come from respect. Since TTG drop CN see there old IPs as nothing more but money makers and it doesn't help that the whiteknighters continue to come to Cartoon Network's rescue with the whole "It's not made for you" excuse because I'm sure kids nowadays know who the Powerpuff Girls are, or the cartoon Titans, or even a Thundercats. It also come from the fact that Nick doesn't announce a reboot of an old property every year like CN does and put someone who never work on the show or in Thundercats Roar's case never like it in the first place and expect us to bend over and enjoy it.

The only Revival I've seen from Cartoon Network that respects the fans is Samurai Jack.
@athemocracy6 жыл бұрын
Which should be a clarion call for CN. The reasons so many love Samurai Jack's revival is (1) his character wasn't drastically changed (2) the tone didn't go from action to comedy (3) the writers developed a great story, not just a simple one. Notice that all of these are obvious issues Ben-10 2016, PPG 2016, ThunderCats 2018 & TTGo all suffer from.
@jturner25776 жыл бұрын
AnimationNation It should be. Which is why I don't get why they and Warner Bros are holding the original Teen Titans series hostage.
@KingBishop6 жыл бұрын
J Turner let it be known that Thundercats 2011 should've gotten a revival. Cause the fanbase for it is big now. And I don't care what anyone says about the chibi reboot, it's garbage. Plus to make matters even worse, some people are hinting out that it might be like Steven Universe when it premieres on the network. Where it might have story, and good writing. But the thing is if the show is going to end up having the same formula as another show, then that doesn't mean it deserves appropriation. But some people are just too stupid to realize that.
@Aaron12345gr6 жыл бұрын
The reason CN can't reboot is because they don't do it right. They dont do what the fans want, I definitely think CN has more potential for reboots but they spoiled it.

I feel like Nickelodeon has more respect for it's older shows (Even if they got outshined by the Sponge) than CN will. When Nick makes continuations, they try their damnedest to make sure they capture what the original had in every way. CN, on the other hand, they just turn the property on it's fucking head and call it a day. Nick has screwed up a lot in the past, but they're trying to make up for it. They know that the worst thing to do after screwing up so much is to totally ruin a show and say "Fuck you" to the fans. Disney has a similar level of respect to it's big boy properties (Like Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, etc). When they make new animation relating to the properties, they make sure it's faithful. They don't want to ruin their trust with the consumers.
@NelsonDemifur6 жыл бұрын
1) Danny Phantom, Avatar, and Johnny Bravo. 2)anyone who thinks the Kylo Ten approach is smart never heard that quote from Walt Disney.
@tylerhouston696 жыл бұрын
Eh fair but CN has done it successfully (Samurai Jack most recently) and as far as ongoing properties are concerned, what does nick have going for it aside from welcome to the wayne, Spongebob, the loud house? They're all fine shows but aside from TLH and SB they aren't pushing their cartoon lineup that much. Aside from the TLH spinoff they have nothing in the pipeline (to my knowledge, feel free to point out shows I've missed) that they can rely on animation wise. While CN has more or less doubled down and invested heavily in new series (COTC, OKKO, Infinity Train, Summer Camp Island, Thundercats, Unikitty) etc. etc. Chances are there's at least one show for someone to enjoy whereas nick has at most 4 cartoons going on that are passable.
@athemocracy6 жыл бұрын
You're right on. The difference between the two companies though is that Nick doesn't have to focus on animation anymore. Nick originally wasn't an animation company. They got deep into Nicktoon production in the 90s-2000s, but Viacom sees it's cheaper to make live-action content, and it kids will still watch. Once it was proven that kids would watch Nick content just by airing 2-3 cartoons and more sitcoms, the company slowed production of new Nicktoons. Cartoon Network can't skew outside of animation. Remember CN Real? If ratings didn't dip and it was proven that live-action was better for ratings than cartoons, Cartoon Network would feature much more live-action content today. Cartoon Network definitely has done revivals successfully, but the difference between Samurai Jack and most of their other reboots is stark. Story, tone, character development were all respected in the Sam.Jack revival. The same can be said for Ben10 2005 to Ben10 Alien Force (2008). However, look at ThunderCats 2018, Ben10 2016, PPG 2016 and TTGO. The same can't be said for them; funny enough the opposite could be presented.

I'll agree with this seeing as they continue to bomb the waves with a show's new episodes and then end up out of content and airing massive amounts of reruns before a 'special' of reruns...already done it with OK K.O. and it's still fairly new. Every other show they air is gutter trash as well.
@tylerhouston696 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, I'd say comparing Disney to CN is probably a better comparison at this point....I kind of blanked on their live action shows. As for the utter trash comments, How is every show they've invested in been trash? Craig of the creek is a damn fine show, OK K.O is easily it's best new show since steven universe (IMO) at the very least it's top 3. Unikitty is a cash in property because gotta make money from those kids eyeballs I'll admit that much, I'm probably blanking on another show or two but those are only new shows they've done since 2017.
@theguywhosangry6 жыл бұрын
Well, Cartoon Network is using their brands to appeal to today’s kids while Nickelodeon is using their brands to appeal to the fans of the show. Cartoon Network is trying to get new people to see the property while Nick is just trying to have the same people who like/liked the show to view it.
@ItsAJETT6 жыл бұрын
I think it's because Nick knows how to bring shows back when people ask for them. People have been asking for the jungle movie for 2 decades at this point. Not to mention that the creators of the original show actually WANT to bring it back. CN usually reboots shows with a completely new cast and writers etc. And they take everything away that majes the show great. Im not talking about Teen Titans Go in this circumstance since it was actually supposed to be a parody, but no one asked for the new Ben 10s or the PPG reboot. Especially if the OG creators aren't involved. I feel like if cartoon network just continued to make original content instead of just trying to cling to nostalgia in every worst way possible, then just dumping their failed projects on boomerang, they wouldn't be in the rabbit hole that they're in now.

What people fail to understand is that kids networks don't care for or want adult viewership. Their advertisers pay them based on how many KIDS they can advertise to. Having too much adult viewership is actually a negative thing if the target audience isn't watching. Thanks to the rise of video games providing instant gratification, action cartoons have taken a hit. Networks have adjusted by relying on a genre that's still largely dominated by TV, comedy. I don't blame the networks, the viewership and opinions of those that have aged out of the target demo are not relevant to them or their advertisers.

For the longest time, I’ve been a Cartoon Network fanboy with a big hatred for Nickelodeon! As I grew up, my stance against Nickelodeon has softened, and while a lot of stuff from the channel still rubs me the wrong way, I have found myself getting into Avatar after I saw the Nostalgia Critic’s review of its film adaptation. Despite my unwillingness at first, I found myself getting into, and enjoying Harvey Beaks, and I ended up looking forward to The Loud House, which, when it started airing in my country (the UK), I became a huge fan! My thoughts of Cartoon Network doing reboots? They didn’t need to reboot Ben 10 in 2014, that show should’ve ended at Omniverse. Yes, the toy line the original Ben 10 series spawned was a big seller, but you shouldn’t let toys be the reason why you reboot an existing show! The Powerpuff Girls I understood getting a reboot: the show has a good legacy and they hadn’t done much with the IP prior to the reboot’s announcement. Too bad the reboot ended up being Cartoon Network’s WORST in-house production! Dexter’s Lab seasons 3 and 4 sucked, and they clearly only happened due to Cartoon Network being desperate for new programming. I do see potential in reboots of Megas XLR and Sym-Bionic Titan, if those can ever legally happen! A reboot of any show can work, it just needs to be done with care, attention and a proper understanding of the source material!

I think its mostly because nostalgic fans feel that the shows cartoon network produced (excluding samurai jack and OG Teen Titans) got an episode/movie that felt like an ending. Ego trip for dexter, the ppg movie for the OG Powerpuff, and even Courage had a tv special. the rest of the shows made at the time didn't really need an ending. I mean who really wants a finale of the series two stupid dogs?
@kemmoado3096 жыл бұрын
Ok, no. Nick is only doing this to get the attention of the older viewers... and even then they failed. The hey Arnold movie got low ratings, do you really think kids would have in interest in seeing a finale of a show they never watched? No, they won’t. And most of the adults these days don’t watch cartoons anymore or have work and stuff to do. So would it be a smart business move to try and appeal to the older viewers.... no. It’ll be more logical to appeal to younger viewers... AKA the kids that are actually watching nick Also CN did reboots, they didn’t continue the series. And if they want then you’ll bet your butt they’ll go all out there just like with Ben 10. Not only that, but. Having a channel bring back 3 shows as specials doesn’t make it any better than its competitor. Also the thing with butch heartman cartoons meeting together isn’t anything to freak out about. Everyone cared about Danny phantom, tough puppy.... eh... and Timmy... ehhh... his show been going on for so long that everybody want it to end

Of course. Nick's target demo. is kids & it has been since the very beginning. Returning to old properties that are from the 2000s and 90s, however, is only relevant to the kids who grew up in that time period, a.k.a. present-day adults. As I said in the video. If nostalgic adults see or hear about their property getting rebooted, renewed, or returning in some way, the execution must factor in large part the fans who grew up with the properties in the first place. The majority of the reboots, Nick doesn't simplify or slim down the quality of the content, but that's the exact approach Cartoon Network takes. Kids emulate their adult counterparts, and seeing adults become fascinated in returning properties benefits Nick, as their potential audience isn't just kids, but nostalgic adults. Hey Arnold did, in fact, fail to garner ratings. Nick wasn't expecting that. I wasn't either. That could potentially mean these classic cartoons are literally worthless to any of Nick's audience.
@kemmoado3096 жыл бұрын
AnimationNation What I’m saying is that when cn comes back to a property, not rebooting it. Coming back to it like samurai jack, people get excited. Same with nick, and same thing will happen if nick rebooted something

It would also explain why the Hey Arnold revival was meant to just be a conclusion to the story. That said, it's not entirely a bad idea to appeal to older fans in this day and age. Where thanks to streaming which these two have and rely partially on. You can catch your favorite shows whenever you want. People don't just stop watching TV after turning 18. We're busy yes, but not that busy. Hollywood would be a completely different place if it only saw success with kids shows.

I see problems with both channels however both at one time were just as enjoyable. When looking at them both and the concept of rebooting I see Nick being for faithful with the older fans and to allow their children to get into something they all loved when they were younger. The issue I have with CN is that they can't reboot in this day in age for shit and I understand the frustration with stuff Like Teen Titans and PowerPuff Girls reboots being terrible and lacking what children before and teens were drawn to these shows. I think another issue is when CN does reboots they seem to not go well but then instead seem to take something in the wrong direction rather study upon how fans felt about that reboot before what they started working on. Nick wins for variety and has for a longtime since CN started to die in 2008. CN was like Nick at one point pushing the envelope to bring shows for everyone to love and watch for generations to come. I think truth be told though unless CN really does more focusing on both sides of watchers then they are gonna sink hard and Nick will crown victory which I should mention at point in time Nick had went through something similar but seemed to of pushed away and started to get back into the game.

AnimationNation children watch cartoon comedy shows not adults. Where's your video on the position of cartoon network as a business?
@DxBlack6 жыл бұрын
You may want to watch the entire "Christina Miller is killing Cartoon Network" and various other videos he's made that note stock price decreases due to massive decrease in viewership for those same "comedy is for kids" like the Ben10 reboot, the SJW'd PowerPuff Girls reboot, and the infamous Teen Titans:GO reboot which was, as mentioned in THIS video, not a comedy series and still has active _ADULT_ fans that wanted a continuation and completion of the story. And on that note: the rebooted Samurai Jack was based on a half-and-half original story, and matured to what it actually was to begin with. Kids Next Door, childish in tone it may have been, was a story in futility of fighting time and growing up (airing directly as the companies Sunrise generation of viewers were growing out of their demographic [and into their Adult Swim demographic]). They clearly can load a "kids comedy" show with adult themes in the same way Loony-Toon's of the 1900's did, so they're clearly made for everyone who cares. Don't demand from people what they've already given and you've not looked for... _that's what children do._

knight17: My position is the one I presented on last week's persketchive episode. Cartoon Network shouldn't use action-based animated series and revive them as comedies; Cartoon Network should invest in original creations (like Craig of the Creek, Infinity Train); If Cartoon Network were to make an original comedy cartoon not based on such iconic action franchises (TTGO, ThunderCats, Ben10, PPG) they wouldn't have this debate in the first place.
