Although I believe Seve at his best is unmatched. He was the Arnold Palmer of European golf. An icon & a talisman. Shame that his career was cut short due to chronic back problems.

Simply the best golfer Europe has ever produced. The key was his ability to use pressure as a fuel to perform not a hindrance. Time and time again Faldo stepped up ; his 3 iron at the 72nd hole @ Murfield 1992 is an example to any young golfer to step up when you have to.

Seve was more than a golfer, he was a leader of men ontop of being a great sportsman and an artist. Seve was a magician and a pioneer. In Seve's words at the end of this video when he embraced Faldo he said ' Faldo you are a great champion.' Faldo and Seve combined won 11 majors albeit completely different golfers but yes Faldo was overall a better golfer in my opinion. Not just having won more majors + Ryder cup points than Seve but his accuracy, precision and focus made him formidable for a period. In my view Rory McIlroy will eclipse them both and become Europe's greatest.

As much as I love all the videos and highlights it's disappointing that there isn't more of Seve who without doubt changed the Ryder Cup and made it what it is today. Any chance of more Seve please?

Who are you talking about and how did he change it? I'm relatively new to the Ruder Cup and I'm hanging on every shot like it's happening live. I love this channel and the Ryder Cup format. I'm anxious to know all I can about it.

@@andyhobaugh3104 Before 1979, the Ryder Cup was US vs. UK and Ireland. The US dominated the contest, so Jack Nicklaus and others came up with the idea of expanding Team UK & Ireland to Team Europe, mainly to include the many great Spanish golfers, above all young Seve Ballesteros. In 1979, Seve and three other Spaniards became the first continental Europeans to play the Ryder Cup. Seve immediately made an impact and led Europe to their first win in 1985, was well as 1987, 1989, etc. He was incredibly competitive and brought a fire and passion to team golf that was never known before. His partnership with Jose Maria Olazabal is the best in Ryder Cup history (11-2-2). Him and Faldo were the standard bearers for a generation of European golfers that went toe-to-toe with the US in the 1980s and 1990s. Back then, the European Tour was a serious competitor to the PGA Tour. That all changed with Tiger.

If I remember correctly, even though the American commentator said Faldos 2nd on the 18th was poor, Bernard Gallagher said it was one of the best shots he'd ever seen,as he left himself his ideal wedge,plus the light rough, meant the ball was going to get no spin,which meant it rolled towards the hole, rather than spinning back into the fringe of the green....if so,it showed how good Faldo's mental game was.

Two great par saves at 17 and 18 to sneak the match, but it wasn’t a great performance overall from Faldo. Strange was the weakest member of the US side, and Nick should’ve comfortably beaten him. Faldo only made two birdies that whole week (in 52 holes). Tough course admittedly, but he was very off his game for most of the ‘95 season.
