Ok, my family switched over to DISH in '04. When we first got Nick GAS, it kicked ass. So many good shows like the original Double Dare, Nick Arcade, Legends, and some I've never heard of that were great. However, over the past couple of years, it's boring. They essentially play the same five shows daily, and the same hour of each show. Nick GAS had so much potential to be great, but they got lazy with it, and that's why the transition was made.

Yeah they did have commercials on it, I have VHS proof from 2002 when they played and had all the Nick Gas bumpers, but they did have commercials like Burger King, and the Lucky Charms commercial, McDonald's, etc. They had commercials. When I grew up, we had Comcast, there were a lot of commercials on Nick Gas and that was back in 2005 to 2007. I even remember in 07 they had the Caveman at the airport Geico commercial.

I has Nick gas bumpers and commercials in between and the Maddie segment with the yo-yo contest. It also has the Chuck e cheese commercial, lucky Charms, Sears, Burger King, McDonald's, and more. Plus it has Nicktoons summer beach house too.

Remember that Nickelodeon Studios was vacant for over a year before Blue Man Group moved in. A lack of visitors to the facility, declining interest in the live action games produced there and a few other reasons are why Nickelodeon walked away. If it wasn't for Blue Man Group and other organizations that now use the facilities, Universal could have leveled the buildings and used the land for something else. But the buildings are still used today to entertain people just like in the 90s.

The problem with Nick GaS is that it became an extension of Nickelodeon Studios. When Nickelodeon Studios closed in 2006, the source of programs for GaS went with it. GaS was reduced to showing multiple episodes of a few programs several times a day. Nickelodeon needs to make money by selling air time to advertisers. With relatively so few people watching GaS and no new shows in the works, Nickelodeon would have a hard time finding anyone willing to pay to advertise on the network.

Discovered this channel in 2002 when I was either 4 or 5. Found it neat to see what Nickelodeon looked like before I was born (Get the Picture, Make the Grade, Nick Arcade *nice rhyme*, Double Dare, Wild & Crazy Kids, Legends of the Hidden Temple and Finders Keepers) as well as programs that were on when I was an infant and obviously too young and small brained to remember (Double Dare 2000, Figure it Out, You're On, etc.) Was also happy as a game show fan to have the network as well. Then it went to hell around 2005 and it was just DD 2000, Legends, Figure it Out and a couple of other things over-and-over again. Even the promos and commercials never changed; it was like walking into a world where time stopped and the same day kept repeating over and over again. By that point, I gave up on the channel and resorted to Google Videos, ZippyVideos and the new-fangled KZbin to watch old shows that had been removed. When the network went off the air, I gave little regard because it was so far gone. Never watched the network again until 2011 when "The 90's Are All That" debuted. Like GaS, it started out great; I even found a new favorite show in Clarissa who was eye candy to my young teenage self. I was happy to see what my favorite childhood network looked like before I was born. It only took a couple of years for T9AAT to die. It became nothing but Rugrats, Hey Arnold and Doug over and over again. Like GaS, T9AAT is gone. I'm assuming that low viewership + the rise of PlutoTV and streaming was one of the factors. Haven't checked out NickGames on PlutoTV yet, but I sure hope it's at least similar to what Nick GaS was in 2003. Would love to see kids running through the Finders Keepers house and kids jumping on the giant telephone on Get the Picture again (don't know if I'm correct on the latter one, my mind is fuzzy.) ~End-of-Storytime~

My story is similar to yours, but rather that I found Nick GAS in early 2007 as my family had Dish. Didn't realize there was a loop in programming until just a few months afterward, but I enjoyed it for awhile. By the way NickGames on Pluto has actually been defunct since August 2020. You probably wouldn't have enjoyed it as much there since Pluto is a pretty buggy service with its ads and most shows overlapping their time runs (I sometimes watch its channel "The Price is Right: The Barker Era" and its episodes run from 11:05-12:05 and so on as an example). Pretty much the best way to reconnect with some of the old Nick Game Shows is Paramount+. A couple shows that I really enjoy are oddly missing from that service which are Get the Picture and Figure it Out, but I at least finally got to see Global Guts on there which I never saw on Nick GAS

True, but select episodes of a few shows :P --- One might think with a cult following Hidden Temple had, would convince Nick (perhaps through Shout! Factory) to release half-season sets. 6 total releases of 20 episodes, and what they could do is color-code in team order, so S1 P1 (1-20) would be Red Jaguars, S1 P2 (21-40) Blue Barracudas... down the line, S3 P2 (101-120) Silver Snakes. That sort of thing. If not that, then simply do 3 full season releases without the need of color-coding so the series can still be enjoyed.

I'm not sure what the exact reasons were. I can only guess what some of the reasons might have been: Dwindling interest in live action shows and the subsequent closure of the Nickelodeon Studios. Live actions programs tend to show their "age" more readily than animated programs (cartoons) do. The financial costs associated with the staging live action shows (insurance/liability) and the loss of sponsors.

I dont see why everyone keeps saying that The N sucks and that it shouldnt have taken away NickGas. I in fact think it is great. They show all of those good old shows like All That, Are You Afraid of the Dark and Kenan and Kel. NickGas only had like 4 shows which they played over and over and got kind of boring. It would be great if they turned NickGas back into a Block on Nick.

It's just a computer running the entire network, apparently Nick had to turn back on the computer for DN until the problems are worked out so it would have something on their. But what I can't see is why it was so difficult that it is expected to take a month. I'm not complaining, I'd watch the same 6 Nick sports shows every day before watching The "N".

Nick GaS became an extension of Nickelodeon Studios. Shows that broadcast on GaS in recent years were recorded at the Orlando facility. The problem is that by the early 2000s, Nickelodeon's target audience lost interest in game shows and wanted cartoons and scripted programs. The loss of interest in game shows resulted in the closing of Nickelodeon Studios. With no new game shows in the pipeline and no advertising revenue coming in, Nick GaS was reduced to a shell of its former self.

Dish Network is not keeping Nick GAS. What happened was subscribers had reported a continuous black screen when the transition was planned to occur. Echostar then undid the changes, returning the station to Nick GAS's normal program lineup. DirecTV also suffered from the glitch until 7:25AM Eastern/6:25AM Central. What I can't understand is how is it possible that Dish is still airing Nick GAS if it has ceased broadcasting and became the N?

Nick GaS aired live action shows that were taped/filmed @ Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando Florida many years ago. For example, GUTS (1992-1994) and Figure It Out (1997-1999). Nickelodeon decided to stop making live action shows and focus on animation (cartoons). In 2005, with no need for a live action facility, Nickelodeon shut down the Studios and moved a good chunk of its production out to California.

And then all they did was show the same segments over and over again that they've been showing for years now. It annoyed the crap out of me! And one of my favorite Nick game shows, Nick Arcade, was only showed at 4 and 4:30AM. I wasn't going to get up at 4AM just to watch a rerun of an old Nick show, unless you had a DVR box where you could just set it to record at 4AM.

Nickelodeon will be returning to Universal Studios. They are going to, once again, rent Stage #21 and produce an updated version of GUTS. If all goes according to plan, the show will air later this year during Nick at Nite.

Maybe Nick won't put Nick GAS on broadband, and this way DN gets an exclusive deal with them. Who knows, there has been no official word. Yet the network is still airing, and they changed their Station ID (bug). Weird...

It's really a shame. I don't care too much for teen-drama type shows... I'm more of a Classic TV fan, and this is what got me hooked to Nick GAS! I wonder if they will ever bring back the Nick GAS block to any of the Nick channels in the future?

That could have been such a great channel if they actually kept up with it. Its kind of like the death of my childhood a show I love like Figure it out just gets crushed and this shit comes on. My childhood has sadly died

Everyone, catch The 90s Are All That this Monday (July 25th) on TeenNick's graveyard shift--i.e. after 12 am--and from 4 to 6 each weekend afternoon! Yes, they MOVED the date forward, people, so catch it to prove to Nick that the 90s shows ARE indeed All That!
