Keeping him in the match is the worst thing for him. He wants a default so he can avoid the reality that he is not and never once has been as good as his fans want to believe he is. Losses absolutely shatter his little ego, that's why he tries to deflect from his own lack of success with childish tantrums.

It’s crazy how different Nick is off the court. He did some good commentary over the last week or so at the Australian open. As entertaining as he is to watch when he’s playing, perhaps he’s better off not being on the tour because this kind of behaviour is disgusting. I don’t mind the odd laugh or bit of emotion shown but he was nothing but a bully and a child in this match and he’s done it many times before this too.

@@GeneralP123 Bernardes wasn't doing his job, granted, but there was no need for nick to antagonize him, carry on and even call him a slur. He should have absolutely been defaulted because of this behaviour

is it against the rules to talk about the umpire? if not, then anyone defending Carlos totalitarian "don't talk" "just play" should be ashamed. kyrgios should just shut up and play lol?

Both sides are in the wrong: kyrgios shouldn't have been hounding at him like that for the whole match. While bernardes, who had his walkie talkie loud, could've muted and most of all, he gave nick a point penalty for saying something to his friend about him doing a better job at being an umpire, which was too unreasonable
