A rollicking good song from 1984 and Nick Lowe who had scored a major hit 5 years earlier with 'Cruel To Be Kind'. This rockabilly, new wave, pop, and rock singer/songwriter hung out with the likes of Elvis Costello and Dave Edmunds. Lifted from his opus 'Nick Lowe & His Cowboy Outfit', 'Half A Boy Half A Man' was the album's opener and obvious single. Although it stalled outside the Top 40 in his British homeland, the catchy track also missed the mark downunder, but I must have seen the video for it, as it became a firm favourite for me among Nick's many singles and albums.
For trivia buffs, 'Half A Boy Half A Man' was covered by rock band George Thorogood and The Destroyers some 15 years later. That riff!!! It's 40 years exactly since the song entered the charts; and it still sounds great and a whole lot of fun in 2024.
