The gentleman doing the singing is Guy Pratt! The same guy from the Pulse concert who plays bass and does half of the singing for the finale song "Run Like Hell"!!

I saw Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets perform in Brisbane 3 weeks ago. It was absolutely amazing - such great musicians, all of them.

I'm a Pink Floyd fan and I'm a Nick Mason fan, but this song was only bearable when Gilmour was doing the chanting, singing, and guitaring.

One of the best shows I've ever been to, Nick is still sharp as a tack and the band are fantastic

Great project. It's a perfect match for Nick Mason. They mostly play Pink Floyd songs from the early era with Syd Barrett, which are great by the way. They don't fill entire stadiums, but their more intimate tours tend to be very successful, and not only fans but critics praise the act.

Nick Mason, the nicest guy in Pink Floyd, by the way, the only member to play in every album of the band. Love the fact that this band are recuperating PF songs that no one else, neither David or Roger will ever do again. Guy Pratt has been in the pink Floys and David Gilmour's camp since 1987. Early Floyd was big in exploring limits in what music can be... hence the weirdness for those not accustomed to.

Saw Mason and his Band two times. Saw Gilmour, saw Waters couple of times. Saw many Coverbands, see Australian Pink Floyd yearly. Never saw anything better than Mason! You don't need big stages, don't need the big lights, the pyro, the lasers. The sound they bring to you... absolutely breathtaking, literally. Hearing the old scuffed 50 years old stuff in that clear fresh way has blown my mind.

Original can be heard on the Meddle album played at 1973 Pompeii. along with Echoes, first time singer Mademoiselle Nobs, One of these days, careful with the Axe Eugene. Did you notice Guy Pratt who was Roger Water replacement from P. F, and David Gilmours solo work

If you listen to early Floyd as a soundscape it takes on a whole different meaning. Their willingness to explore was courageous and amazing. I really appreciate your honesty in all your reviews.

I like this, it's ok, but the best version for me is the live at Pompeii 1972, the whole night time atmosphere of the old amphitheatre just adds to the mesmeric sound of the song. Guy Pratt (who by the way is the bass player at Pulse) does a pretty good job on vocals here but just isn't Roger Waters, please give it a listen, i think you'll connect with it a lot better. All the best guys, keep up the great work you do and thankyou for your honest opinions ✌

When I brought this song's album home, fifty years ago, it was beyond the beyond. Everything before it was bubble gum, Mickey Mouse, child's play. It is still largely beyond most peoples' appreciation, let's call it. Space rock, basically.

this is psychodelic rock, and PF was procursor of this genre, and most famous band of this short era. Ummagumma is great album. And we have "More" lp, pretty psychodelic too. That was more less 5 year before DSOTM

"Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" from the Ummagumma album was the first Pink Floyd music I heard in 1968. I've been a fan ever since. I use to lay on the floor between the stereo speakers and just drift away into the entire live performance of the album and most of the studio work. "And The Wind Cried Mary"

My favorite Pink Floyd tune. Also A Saucer Full Of Secrets. Set the Controls is done in the phrygian mode. This gives it a haunting and eerie feel.

I was tripping to this song by Pink Floyd from the Ummagumma LP before I was tripping to acid. Early Floyd, pre-Dark Side--is my favorite.

It took me years to appreciate this song, so I get it. I do love it now and appreciate it a lot. Early Pink Floyd can be challenging, but I hope maybe you try "Interstellar Overdrive." Thanks for the honest reaction, which I love!

I'm listening to Pink Floyd since 1994, and I only liked this song maybe 15 or more years later. It was not my taste of songs on my early days with Pink Floyd but now it's one of my favorite tracks

It’s ok not to like a song or music! I don’t like a couple Pink Floyd songs from when they first started and some of David gilmours songs! It’s a personal preference! 👍.

Nothing more boring that reactors who just say “that was great” after every song. Authenticity is much more interesting. Early Floyd is not very accessible - this one is particularly psychedelic and unique. I hope you’ll try some more with Nick Mason’s band. I know there are some you will enjoy.

They did this in pompeii. With the complete band. I like it better than this Version period I think it's just one of those songs that you lay back and just listen and relax Mcmahon has to be the coolest drummer If you want to understand the song more deeply, read the paper written by Mr. X Carl Sagan very good read I promise

This was the album Ummagumma that was the true beginning of my deep dive into Pink Floyd. I have the earlier albums and love them but this was the one that captured my soul. It isn't for everybody as it is truly an experimental work. They were trying to reach for what they ultimately became even if they didn't quite know what it was yet. At this time the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and others were all caught up in eastern music and themes. In this song you can hear elements of eastern and especially Arabic thematic ideas woven into the psychedelia that was Pink Floyds and especially Syd Barretts ideas. Syd was pretty much at the end of his rope but he had been pouring out ideas which still were affecting the direction of PF music. Alan Parsons, who also engineered the Beatles Abby Road and Let It Be, brought his ideas to Dark Side of the Moon and the rest is history. The final shape was born. The song you reacted to was an intellectual exercise in psychedelia without the emotional levels that came to characterize their later work. It doesn't appeal to everyone but I think most musicians can see what they were reaching for and appreciate it on that level. I love it but then I have been listening to it for more than 50 years now.

What you must grasp is, they were playing with your thought process, your differing views show that, we look at the horrific images of war, they upset us and make us angry, but we still look...Peace.

This version sounds great but it's not as good as the live versions the band played from 1969 to 1971. Those were top tier, which is the standard with Pink Floyd.
