I reckon it's obvious that Megadeth generally is more technical. I mean, they've had jazz musicians, for fuck's sake, jazz. Jazz is so fucking complex. Chris Poland, that dude could make the guitar cry and he still had chops that Yngwie Malmsteen couldn't do. Insane sweep picking (check his band Ohm and his solo stuff, he has both metal and jazz fusion stuff). Also, Gar Samuelson, jazz fills and double bass, I don't know much about drumming but he sounds quite tight. Marty Friedman, simply amazing, one of the best guitarists of all time along with Chris Poland. Chris Broderick, I could go on forever, Al Pitrelli, Megadeth has had some of the finest musicians ever, I would even dare to say Chris Poland and Marty Friedman are in the league of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and all of those "virtuosos". Metallica are good, but they never were a technical band. Technique is objective, the only objective thing in music. The rest is opinion. Megadeth is more complex, Metallica might appeal to you more but that's still only an opinion.

I am a drummer and I have to say Lars is probably better. They are both extremely good drummers though. But you know what these drum comparisons shouldn’t happen drumming isn’t a competition, drumming just like any instrument is art. You play what fits the style of music lars does fast double bass sometimes because that is what fits the music he went for groove on the black album because that is what fit. No drummer truly sucks it is all about what you bring to the band and what you bring to the music.

The extra energy didn't last long, 'cause after 1993 he was still young and probably still enjoyed the stuff, but his bass drum triplets became horribly sloppy nonetheless.
@listillolordoc76044 жыл бұрын
Nick is a real drummer. What I mean is, along with his chops he keeps time for the musicians he plays. Lars plays the drums. At one time in the late 80’s he was good, but the reason Metallica sounds sloppy live is because Lars fallows James, then the rest of the band fallows Lars. To many moving parts to the machine. James and Lars have both admitted that Lars more or less needs to fallow James, or someone. If you took Nick and put him in Metallica for an hour, they’d fire Lars once they heard those songs played tight with a real drummer.

In this battle, Nick is undoubtedly the best (even though Lars is my favourite drummer) but I feel like he was a bit wasted on the studio albums after Rust In Peace: he did excellent tracks, he served the song very well but I think he simplified too much his drumming (also like Lars) except for some standout tracks. I also think Lars could have replicated without too much struggles his work on Countdown or Youthanasia. However I hardly doubt he could replicate, even in his prime, what Nick did on Rust In Peace. Those drum tracks are a masterpiece.

There’s average joes on KZbin with Metallica drum covers that completely blow Lars’s take any day of the week. Lars is the founder of the band along with James and those 2 have written the majority of their songs which is where I will give Lars credit but when it comes to playing he LEAGUES behind James, Kirk, and Robert it’s actually very sad. I hope you don’t think I’m a hater, because Metallica has been a fundamental part of my life for since I was 8 (20 now) and yes he has decent performances on studio records ( key work studio where you can play till you get it right) as a pro drummer he’s severely under par but he’s the heart along with James of Metallica
