Zizek said the problem with Zen is that the Japanese used Zen as a tool to avoid responsibility for killing, it was a military ideology where person holding and using a sword isn't responsible because they aren't really there as an ego, and the sword simply moves through the air

Mahayana, Theravada, and Chan (zen) Buddhism all believe in samsara and reincarnation, but zen maybe focuses less on it than Theravada because Theravada is more concerned about individual Buddhahood and less with treatment of others (it’s more ascetic), Mahayana and Zen (which is a form of Mahayana in japan) is more concerned with developing good karma in this life through service, so that all people achieve nirvana.

I find reincarnation very logical. We all are the universe observing itself. As long as the universe is here, it will experience itself subjectively through life on planets. We all are that same universe consciousness.

Most of the people that have memories of past lives have those memories as children and lose them before puberty. The idea of reincarnation and samsara is pretty interesting because the whole goal is to escape the cycle and not come back (at least not for a long long time.)

We are a one-time event of physics and chemistry, more compisitionally and behaviorally unique than the most spectacular nova or nebula. It may not satisfy our irrational animal-brain desire for reality-transcending permanence, but it's as beautiful and meaningful as can be hoped for, I think.
