It's not bad writing at all. Mulvey is actually very aware of the problems facing the world today and his ability to express that in his music makes him very intelligent. This song in itself makes one question what he actually means as you have done just now.. Black bears have been extinct in the UK since medieval times. One of the biggest threats to black bears is deforestation of their habitat due to continual urban development. They are also hunted by humans which probably led to their extinction back then.. Unless humans work to preserve the habitat of wildlife, they simply won't have one which leads to all wildlife reaching the end of the line. If they have no home they have no livelihood. Reintroducing black bears into wildlife is a conservation measure that is being implemented today. Mulvey is from the UK. He spent some time in Cuba as a youth for formal schooling but resides in London.. Many of his songs are political in nature as he speaks of fracking and deforestation which threatens all species, even humans in all parts of the world..not just the US. Despite most Americans beliefs and thinking, there is a whole world of people outside of the US that have similar if not far greater issues than we do.. "Indigenous" people are those native to their environment. Indigenous applies to anyone and everyone from a particular place although most people from the US when hearing "indigenous" are quick to think of Native Americans... and although that is correct for their area, "indigenous" applies to everyone all around the world. I hope that I have explained this and that it doesn't come off as being a smart ass. That's not my intention. I respect anyone that inquires and questions the lyrics of a song so please don't take my response as condescending in any way.
