If you're a real coach, which Saban is, you're not going to torpedo someone's boat by telling them some nonsense because that would mean you're scared of what they might be able to accomplish. Look, a real coach would celebrate another coach even if it was at his expense because they know that you're not supposed to bemoan someone else's success. It's called good sportsmanship, even if it means them joining your conference and becoming a direct competitor.

@@davidowen891 I'm not comparing LSU with anybody. Nick Saban asked the LSU Athletic Director if he could come back to LSU. Skip told him no. Les Miles was LSU's coach. If you are ignorant of this fact, then that's your problem.

They meet in events all the time. National Association of Coaches, etc. They may need each other to recommend other coaches and give blessings to pick each others coaches or endorse each others coaches for head coaching jobs or leap to the NFL. Stand up guys. It could take a few classes but he will have chances to win the Natty. Also I’m Bowden always said Miami and FSU got about the same quality of player, it’s coaching them and obviously injuries.

Saban will absolutely tell a recruit that LSU is a mess and Kelly is desperate and not to be trusted. He also didn’t give Kelly insights into Alabama’s weaknesses that Kelly can exploit in November. But I can see him being respectful enough of Kelly to give him a few broad strokes about the LSU job. My guess is he was at least mildly critical, but I guess he wasn’t so devastating as to scare him off.

My point is that he wouldn’t deliberately undermine himself or help LSU in a way that directly hurt Alabama. He would even be uncharitable toward LSU if it gave him an edge. But he would have a professional conversation with a peer he respected. He’s not afraid to potentially coach against someone good.
