@@Sprinklgrl I’ll respond based on my own experience, and also every design video I’ve ever watched regarding lighting 🙂 you want different types of light, at different levels! Overhead lighting isn’t so favorable bc it’s harsh. Instead try floor lamps, a swag lamp hanging in a corner, a small table lamp on the kitchen counter or a more substantial one on top of a buffet/China cabinet (dining room). I heard one YT designer (Noah Daniel maybe?) describe it as “a soup of light/light soup”, meaning to use different light “ingredients” to create an overall effect and a more interesting “flavor profile”. Use warm lightbulbs no brighter than 3000k (2700 is great!). Also since you don’t have windows in your kitchen/DR, I’d use large mirrors wherever possible to bounce light around. I hung a giant mirror over the sink in my kitchen bc I don’t have a window there like most homes do, and it serves the same purpose! I live in a duplex, so all the windows in my apt are on one side of the house, so all throughout my apt I have big mirrors hung or propped up on opposite walls and it literally doubles the amount of light :) I hope this info helps! I’m no designer myself, but I do watch a lot of interior design content and I truly think I summed up what any “pro” would tell you ☺️ (Editing for punctuation, I really rambled that all out at once lol! Apologies!)

As a health and wellness coach I notice how very little marketing on any product mentions much, if anything on health. Well, here is one for IKEA. I did a lot of research on the lead content in various dinner and glassware brands. IKEA came out on top, along with Corning ware, for having the lowest amount of lead. Needless to say I ended up buying my dinnerware from IKEA.

Like you, Nick, I do not like plastic pots. However, as a gardener for 50 years, and a Master Gardener to boot, I've had to make accommodations. I've designed my 1.5 acres, changed it with time and it's quite lovely. My dilemma (I'm nearly 80) is that, in spite of sometimes helpers. I've needed to change my list of must haves to what can work. Hence, plastic pots outdoors. Do I love them? No. It's my make-do to the current situation of my life. Enjoy your show and you greatly. Patricia P.S. No doilies or fake flowers in my life so far.

I can relate. It's funny how age and physical ability make you adjust your choices here and there. Lifting large planters and pots made with heavy materials would be impossible for me too. I had a set of stoneware mixing bowls that I absolutely loved. They were so pretty. But SO heavy, and my back is not strong anymore. When I had to ask my husband to put the largest bowl in the cabinet for me, I knew I had to give them up. 😥 I replaced them with a stainless steel set with silicone on the bottom so they don't slide around on the counter. There's no aesthetic comparison to the beautiful stoneware bowls, but I can wash them in the sink and lift them in and out of the cabinet so easily because they weigh next to nothing.

@@karenlampe5426- I always loved his designs, but I wouldn't go near anything of his now! I watched a video about poisons in Victorian homes, and it seems he continued to produce arsenical wallpaper in his own factory, despite knowing that the green dyes he was using were highly toxic, and were poisoning people! He made some dismissive comment about the public who were becoming sick because of his wallpapers, saying that they were just superstitious of what they didn't understand. I couldn't believe that he could have been so callous. I'm afraid I can no longer see his designs as 'beautiful, when they harmed so many!

Nick also doesn't really have a passionate "call to action" to hurry to the store or online and buy anything. His attitude is more, "If this looks nice, maybe you'd like to pick it up while available. If not, screw it, I don't care, do what you want with your money." 😂 I recently had to give a more critical comment on another interior designer's recent video due to a lot of their current content just being listicals for buying stuff, plus they had been doing a lot of haul videos. I didn't add this in my comment there as I felt it was too mean, but they also had become almost too hyper and excited in the videos, to a point of sounding fake. Their videos from last year were more...genuine and down to earth. They would maybe recommend items, which I don't mind in and of itself, necessarily, but also critique any issues with the item and it was more similar to Nick's tone, where it felt like just a casual suggestion, not the promotion of "the hottest new thing you need to get right now!" I really miss their old content, or wish that at least they'd tone it down some.

One of my favorite wooden spoons is one of those pointy ones with a hole in the middle. It's probably 50+ years old. That thing has been all over the world. It was my mom's and she gave it to me in the early 80s when I started backpacking. It has been to Italy, Greece, Turkey and then on countless camping trips all over the US. I just love that thing. Hack from a Dane here: if you like the pine wood items, but you don't like how yellow it becomes over time it is really easy to stain or white wash with a soap with a bit of stain in it. So many people here in Copenhagen use IKEA a lot, but it never looks the same because it's always a convo of "oooh I love what you did with that, how did you get that shade?" Etc. And there's something satisfying about seeing the colors age and change, at least in my opinion.

It's better to buy trinket dishes in a thrift of antique store imo. You can usually find really cute and unique small plates there, and that way you're not contributing to consumerism. And most of those unique thrift store finds are not so populair to use in kitchens anymore because they used to belong to sets that are now incomplete etc. So might as well use them as a nice trinket dish :)

IKEA koncis baking pans are one of our favorite things. They’re very handy because of the small size. Meaning you can use them in smaller toaster ovens. My husband uses them to grab whatever he’s cooking on the grill. I can’t even express it to the fullest extent…they’re just the best. You don’t always want to deal with and wash giant baking pans. Especially if you’re just cooking for one or two people.

Hi Nick! Huge fan, your videos are the primary resource that has shaped my sense of interior design and how I approach the interior of my own home. It’s been fun learning how to design a space I love to live in! A request for you: could you do a video on a space feeling “finished” versus “cluttered”? I am having trouble determining the difference. I can’t tell if my space is visually engaging and interesting, or if it just feels cluttered. I constantly go back and forth, and I would love your insight. Thanks!

Just a note about terracotta pots - get a smaller plastic pot for inside of it! If you pot a plant directly into it, it will need a LOT of water because the material saps out a ton of water from the soil.

I was inspired by your admiration of that cotton throw. It did look very stylish yet comfy, not a combo frequently seen. I went to the IKEA website to get more info on the throw and possibly purchase one. Many of the reviews were positive, but a noticeable number were 1-2 star reviews complaining that the throws didn’t survive laundering, even when delicate wash cycle and low dryer heat were used. Actual holes appeared in the fabric after the first few laundering attempts. I decided to pass on the throw, but I did buy a set of the blue dishes. My current IKEA dishware has served me well for almost 10 years. Over that time, some pieces were broken during use (clutzy me) and others have collected chips. It’s time for a new set. Thank you for the tips!

Given that the throw is double guaze that makes sense. Would last okay I imagine in homes with expectations of light double weave, but if you thought it has the durability of other thicker fabric throws, nope not it's jam.

I’m with you Nick on not being able to pronounce the names of IKEA products and to be honest, I sometimes think that they are messing with us and just making ridiculous names up that don’t exist in Sweden 😂.
