I went on the 323s when I went to Bromsgrove for the International Living History Festival last year; last weekend I went to the Battle of Nantwich from Chesterfield (my home town) changing at Stockport. Got on one of the new TfW Class 197s with the bilingual announcements Stockport to / from Nantwich. First time on this route for 30+ years, last time it was the old 304 / 305 units.

You only had to spend an hour at Sandbach, some of us have had to spend years. Some more fun Sandbach facts for you: The coppice behind you off platform 3 used to all be goods lines. Realignment work took place in preparation for HS2 trains being routed into Manchester via the line before the line into Manchester was completed. The line which diverges to the left towards Manchester leads to Middlewich and Northwich, the royal train was often stabled down there on overnight stops.

Spent a nice couple of hours at Crewe on Monday, videoing trains for my channel - including a freshly-repainted 323 210! It's so nice to see the lovely TfWM moquette being displayed to a wider audience, lucky people. Have a lovely photo of 323 207 from 2014 - in London Midland City green livery!

Nick - I am glad for your sake you could get off at Styal. In late 1995, I was taking a splendid lady on our first date, to the Quarry Bank Mill you mention. The train whizzed through Styal without stopping at the next (unintended) stop. I asked the guard what had happened: "I spoke to the driver and we could not remember whether we were supposed to stop at Styal(!)" Mercifully, my date and I thoroughly enjoyed Quarry Bank Mill. She has now been my wife of nearly 28 years. You never know, Nick. You could find your future wife at Styal. Thanking you for al your videos.

The secret to making snowballs with powdery snow is to take one glove off. Then the heat from your hand slightly melts the snow and it will stick together. Keep the glove on on your throwing arm.

Great vlog Nick. I’ve done a few of these stations on the Crewe to Manchester line but not all of them! The rhyming at the start was hilarious and Styal might have had more snow as it’s slightly further above sea level compared to Sandbach and Holmes Chapel.

Hello there, how are you? Its a pretty cold day here in Crewe. Woke up today and thought "What should I do?" Whilst sat at my desk and sipping my morning brew. I thought for a while, then out of the blue "Here's Alderley Edge, there's something new." I've never been down the line. Its true, And a good service per hour, two! All five stations, all the way through. That's an idea that I've warmed to. I hear there's a viaduct with a nice view, And now for this channel it can make its debut So thanks to Northern right on cue, Filming this video I shall get into, Lets begin without further adieu, On board this Class 323 EMU! The old Cross City line 323's are also on the Manchester to Blackpool service too! I was heading to Horwich Parkway from Deansgate station with some friends and a pair of 323's arrived instead of the normal 331's. I had to ask one of the train crew "Is this going to Blackpool?" because in my mind, I thought it could have been a late running Liverpool train. It's nice to see the 323's are still in service though and adds a bit of qirkiness to Northern's endless amounts of CAF's but still provide an improvement over the older versions of the sprinters.

Sandbach would appear to be the most southerly Northern station the others it roughly lines up with in England are LNW,EMR and LNER.Chathill is the most northerly Northern station.

Before the Airport line opened (1993?) there were four trains an hour between Manchester (Altrincham before it was replaced by Metrolink) & Alderley Edge, two via Stockport, one of which carried onto Crewe, and two via Styal but they were diverted to terminate at the Airport. Only in recent years has one of the Airport trains been extended onto Crewe semi fast.

Hmm well technically the Birmingham Cross City and other local lines got 350's and 730's to replace them. I remember when they arrived on Crewe- Deansgate and Hazel Grove/Macclesfield- Manchester replacing the older stock. Don't forget 730's are coming to Euston-Crewe- Liverpool

Even more old trains for Northern. Can't help but think Northern would have been better off waiting a year or two and picked up the 350's instead. Obviously this would have meant keeping the 319's a little longer but at least the trains would have been around 20 years old instead of 30.

The 323s are mid-life, and Northern already operates the class. It makes operations easier and should allow for longer trains; a fairly simple decision. They probably want to save money for the Sprinter replacement as well, rather than replacing much newer trains.

Intersteing how the two British rail content creators I have subscribed take so differet approaches to the same topic. Network Nathan has beaten you on the time for the 323s at Northern, but your video is so different it does not matter at all. Now you know what in Germany is called a "view connection". On arrival (or running the stairs or along the platform) you can still see your train departing. Closest I ever had was the green lights in the button turning off 2 cm before my finger could press it.
