The only option would be to either find a template somewhere that someone has made, or create one from the 3D model of the car in zModeler. I'm not real sure how that's done though. But, I believe there's a tutorial on how to do that on here made by SoCalThero

How do you make a livery for a car or truck that didn’t come with a template????

If you can find the _sign files in the ytd, you can line stuff up generally with what livery is already there, then just make that original layer transparent. There will most likely be quite a bit of trial and error this way, but it's possible. If there are no liveries or _sign files it's not possible unless you know how to make a template in zModeler (which unfortunately I don't....lol) but SoCal Thero has tutorials on how to do that here on KZbin

With a lot of cars, you can just keep the names going like sign_2, sign_3 etc. But there are quite a few that you have to go into zModeler and change some attributes in order for it to work. I'm not familiar with anything in zModeler, so I wouldn't be able to tell you how to do that though

The only way something can be repainted in game is if it's transparent in the livery itself

I havent seen any mods out there that have the street names and postal that don't jave a terrain view. It's a pain to make the maps too because it's a ton of tiles that are stitched together to make the large map

thanks for this video. Im trying to add a livery to Kuruma car model. It doesnt have a "sign" texture. Every tutorial online says the following steps to add a livery: 1. Get OpenIV, chane to Edit mode 2. find the car .yft and .ytd and copy files to your mod folder. 3. search in the .ytd for a texture called "sign". 4. Export out this texture, edit and make livery changes 5. Replace texture with updated Livery 6. View livery on .yft file. The only issue im finding is that none of my texture files have the livery texture, aka the "sign" texture. Any ideas on what im doing wrong? is it that just some cars dont have the sign texture? If so, how do you add a sign texture?

A lot of times you have to pull the whole model into zModeler to make the sign file if it doesn't exist already. I've never messed with zModeler though. I'm not that skilled...lol

The only vanilla car templates I've ever seen were put together by SoCal Thero, but it's just trains, trucks and service vehicles. The only way to get specific ones would be to open the models up in zModeler and template them.... I've done a ton of googling to see if there may be any other templates for vanilla cars, but couldn't find any. It could be done. It'd be an involved process though. You'd have to extract the model and texture files, and then open them up in zModeler, create a template for the car in zModeler, then follow the steps in this video

It only works in FiveM. It could work in single player too, you'd just have to manipulate the ytd file that's in the rpf file. It wouldn't ever work for GTA Online though. They don't allow any type of modded files on there

If you're wanting to be able to do something like respraying at Benny's or something like that, you can just make every layer transparent except for the markings you add to the template. You'll want to make sure that the template layer is transparent as well.

How many are there? I think some devs do that because there is a size limit to streamable assets, so they'll just split them up. I'd try just doing each one and see if it works out. Theoretically it should. Save a copy of the original though just in case.

Most of the time, it'll be the type of car, like charger or f150 then sign_x, but not always.. Open up the ytd with openIV and up at the top left, you can search for sign. It'll pull up the livery files and let you know what to name it

I know I am way to late but how do you add multiple liveries to cars? I've added 2 liveries with the same template to a Police dodge charger, but only the first one works. When I try to use the different livery it says that there are no other liveries available. Do you know a fix?

I think the solution may be in the vehicles.meta file. Make sure FLAG_HAS_LIVERY is in the flags section. If it is, or that doesn't fix it, it may be something with the model itself that would be fixed in zModeler. I don't have much experience in zModeler though...lol

Unfortunately no. The templates have to be created by that particular vehicle's developer. Any other template for another dev's model won't line up with that model

When you go to export the finished product, export it named as whatever the livery file is named in OpenIV. Then just click replace on that texture in OpenIV and choose the one you made. The most important thing is that the names match

Open the ytd up in OpenIV and do a search for a file that contains "sign" whatever that is will be the name you need to make for your file. If it doesn't have a template included though, it's doubtful everything will line up correctly

Make sure OpenIV is in edit mode...there's a button at the top right

If you're using Photoshop, you'll have to export as PNG.....it's a new thing since I made the video....lol

So say I want to make the entire car white. When I make the background white, making sure the decals are showing, I go into OpenIV and see that the car is all white without the decals? I am super confused at the moment. If anyone could help, that would be fantastic!

If the car has a sign_1 that's blank then it's the one that'll show up when you open the yft of the model.

What I would do is if it has any sign files in there that are blank, delete it and name the one you edited with the sign_1....for example camaro_sign_1 or however they have it named in the YTD. Only down side is you won't be able to have that car as an unmarked ever

As long as you import it back into the .ytd as either a png or dds, it should work just fine

It works just as well in Gimp, which is free.... I just prefer Photoshop because it's what I'm used to.

There's a small pack that socalThero made for some of the trucks and stuff on gta5mods, but, other than that, someone would have to create templates in zModeler for each car themselves

The only vanilla car templates I've ever seen were put together by SoCal Thero, but it's just trains, trucks and service vehicles. The only way to get specific ones would be to open the models up in zModeler and template them.... I've done a ton of googling to see if there may be any other templates for vanilla cars, but couldn't find any.
