6s is generally 5” for me, though sometimes at lighter weights than this. Around 300g with a 550mah 6s, or even 2fiddy (260g) at 380mah. These get the 5 to 8 minutes of fast exploration flight time without the giant batteries. Though I suppose 5” props have better efficiency than those little 3.5” props.

I have an older HGLRC 6s Petrel132 I got for free back in like 2020... pinnacle of 2020 BNF engineering, it has tall 1106 2400kv motors and a 13A F411 16x16 stack. Despite my best attempts at killing it over the years, it still has the original frame, FC, ESC and motors. It survived numerous full speed ground encounters, and a week of 3D mode practice. I'll keep on flying it until it can't anymore even though I'll have much more recent 3" builds ready soon.

When you said: "Also comes with another 3d print that you can use a different hd camera" That is actually the printed part for the "Optional GPS" that your quad didn't have. I just purchased the 3.6" GPS model last week and it will be delivered tomorrow. So excited to get it even with the snow in NY right now. I was excited to see another KZbinr review this quad before I got mine in hand.

Hi Nick, so one thing that seemed to come across on the video - this quad covered the "track" in your backyard quite quickly! I can't say that I am a fan of the shape of this quad but I do appreciate the side plates... when I fly in my backyard my quad gets full of grass clippings, dirt, etc... You do make a good point about the heat up concerns with the 03 - that thing gets stupid hot. There are some heat sinks now being offered for the 03, I just bought a set (made by iFlight) but it did not fit... it was undersized by - a lot, over a mm of interference... but I wanted to use it that same weekend so I cut the flanges off and it worked fine. Note that the flanges do not seem to be doing anything functional. . I don't have data yet on the before/after for the heat sink, and I could believe that it is actually not really doing that much which makes me wonder if adding thermal paste between the 03 and the heat sink would be of any benefit The receiver on this quad being mounted in that printed mount, I am not sure what to think. The size of that quad makes it look like the receiver could easily fit inside the body. Why would they design it this way|? So how would you sum up the experience? I think the speed is very noticeable and for what it is worth that is not necessarily something that I want. I like the idea of flying a sort of track or course, much like I see you fly in your videos. But one thing for me for sure - I love to race, raced MX for 3 decades so it is deep in the blood... fwiw I can't race anymore. I have been into RC for decades as well racing off road trucks both nitro and electric. Those off road buggies and truggies are fun as heck and the new RadioMaster surface radio is AWESOME! Shoot, years ago I would drool over some of the expensive Airtronics or Futaba radios with price tags of $400-$500, or even more and as such, I never could touch one but the new RadioMaster is every bit as good as those radios and then some for something like $130! How amazing is that! When I started in RC t was with AM radios (HA!), no fail safes, and nitro engines that would always seem to only fail WOT and run away usually crashing into a curb... Anyways, nice job with this review (as always) Nick, thanks for what you do. Cheers.

I have seen the O3 heat sinks, but thought it was some sort of gimik. Thermal paste could be the key in that heat transfer to the heatsink, but I can't say with any certainty as you have investigated far further than I have. The main reason I see the Rx being mounted externally is the Rx bind button. I don't use that feature, but it has been introduced and is on this Rx. But yea it could have been mounted internally and still function just has all the previous elrs rx have. Being somewhat new to 6s at this prop size I was very happy with the performance, each flight I was worried about the durability and if I would find a bad crash doing damage to the house/windows etc. The weight it what was the main concern for me flying so near my house. I didn't bang into the house but did hit a few other things, like the pool pump equipment/pvc, I did have thought that could also be damaged. All of my damage/durability concerns were unfounded and didn't come to play in the crashes I have had. I do think this is more suitable for larger flying spaces where damaging something other than the quad is the concern.

@@NickBurnsFPV Glad thinks did not get beat up by that quad! I am thinking of doing some testing on the 03 units and the heat sinks - I am working 11-12 hrs a day (never less and sometimes more) plus an hour drive in each direction and most Saturdays so my free time is super limited and I think it will be late fall by the time I know anything!!! To try to make up for lost time I actually bring my unbuilt drones with me to work every day and at least at lunchtime I now take a lunch (what a concept!) and try to get something done but it is at work and people drop into my office all the time, even with the door closed they still knock if they think I am in there. I am thinking of running the 03 under a thermal camera - measuring all 6 sides, then add the heat sink no paste, then with paste, etc... even a heat sink on the top of the unit vs the bottom vs both. Then make some graphs/tables of the results to see if it is a good idea or not. I would need to get a thermal camera and another heat sink to do the testing, any suggestions on a good camera at a great price? Cheers

Talking about your pool I have a tip that has worked for me 5+ times. I have a freshwater pool (not sure if this will work in saltwater) but I crash into it more than I would like to admit. You think the best idea is to run over and yanking it out of the water to unplug it and let it dry out for sometime but many times something is burnt out. What I read online was the best thing for any electronic device is to leave the device under the water and unplug or turn it off while its underwater. When you pull the device out still plugged in the water starts running off the board and its when you have small puddles of water on the board that the short happens and not when its under the water due to the fact that water is taking all the current and keeping the board from shorting. I'm sure this will not work ever time but it has for me and after I let it dry out and take the camera lens off to dry out I'm back flying around.
@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV 10 ай бұрын
Luckily I have only had one quad go into the pool. Normally I keep it covered like in this video. The issue with the cover is the cover pump can't pump all the water off, typical float trigger pump, and its not warm enough to dry it out naturally. The shallow water "landing" is what sticks in the back of my mind when flying in that scenario.

The motor wire guards work well from my experience. But only once... after 1 good hit they shatter and are sharp af. Even if they only work once that's one less esc or motor you have to replace. Cuz the moment those wires touch its over. But they have worked well for me as far as keeping the prop from cutting them. Small price to pay imo. Especially if your running expensive equipment. Wow the Domain 3.6 is heavy! No wonder they put big 2105.5 motors on 6s. I'll be honest, for a 3.5 to 4 inch quad, it looks like it flies like an overweight quad. Like when you put a battery that's too big to get extra flight time. Or maybe it's the rates or really high RC smoothing? I don't know. Of course, your flying is amazing as always. That tree dive through the branches was great! I built a 4" with 2105.5 3600kv 4s motors and it accelerates faster and is more agile than any 5 inch. It only weighs 340 grams with a 4s 850 Tattu R-line, but also has hang time and some momentum to make it fun. 6s is great for 5 inch quads, but personally don't think you need more than 4s for 4 inch and under.

@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV 2 ай бұрын
The prop size is the 3.6 vs 4.2. Larger prop is going to have more efficiency and overall thrust, but also be larger and weigh more. Depends if you want longer flights, more performance, or going to be flying in smaller spaces.

Downsize the mah for 6s until you have the same watt hours as your 3s of choice ((mah)x(v)/1000=(wh)). Weight is similar, efficiency is higher, flight times are higher if you fly the same power levels, things run cooler, more power available if needed. No downside unless you already have the 3s packs.
@watcher131
@watcher131 10 ай бұрын
I meant li-ion. According to my observations, 4s 18650 is already heavy for 4 inches. therefore 3s.

it does rival the weight of much larger quads. I am curious what spurred GepRC to make a quad at this weight and prop size. I wonder if it's just "because they can", or the shotgun approach to see what sticks.
@nikotttin

@NickBurnsFPV Do you think so? My initial thought is that they wanted to offer a power system for smaller areas (vs. 5"). I actually have a 3.5" with 2004. I haven't flown that enough to have an opinion. For me going to larger motor size was driven by 1404s which I always found a bit too weak.
