I lost my eldest cat Mischa who I’d had for 17 yrs, more than half my life, my guardian angel, to tracheal cancer before Xmas last year. I lost my 2nd eldest cat, Chiba, a rescue born with a myriad of health problems and a facial deformity, but who lived her 14 yrs purring through whatever she had to go through, to complete kidney failure a month later. I sang this song to both before they were euthanised. And I sing it all the time to my thankfully very healthy boy cat Charlie and my little kitten Coco Camellia all the time. It’s the most perfect expression of how I feel about them. About love.

I need to cry and did - beautiful. I lost my daughter at 27 and a few years later my brother couldn't keep going and took his life just before the anniversary of her death. They had a bond and he was trying to keep her safe until my husband and I arrived home. My experience of grief has led to a similar outcome as the journey you described recently in an interview in Australia where I heard this song for the first time. It is one that arose from the kernel of who you are. Now we have our first grand-daughter - Rose. I needed to write - it was my saving grace along with my deep faith that all is always well.

Of course it's a great song and of course it's one of the most pure love songs ever written. The real take away was how good the audience was! Only singing at the chorus, quite through the verses. If you listen you can hear so much excitement before the first chorus, but they realized they stepped on the pianos chorus melody and they dialed it back for the second chorus to hear it. This is a perfect performance all around.

my cat, hugo, would always sleep in my arms. he'd purr, and i'd check his breathing because i've had an angel taken from me once too. he'd have these cute inhales and exhales. he's my everything. yesterday, my family had him confined at the vet. i was in college and islands away. i asked friends and family to pray for him because i am an agnostic. this song has been my favorite since i watched "about time". and i can't believe that i didn't beg god to bring hugo into my arms again. my dad called and told me hugo died earlier at 1:00 am. my heart is shattering right now. i want hugo to come back into my arms again.

I just LOOOOOOOOVE this song, discussing 'passing away" , religion , 'the afterlife' this is THE song that myself, my family and my loved ones have differing views on. It is by far one of my favourites and I've expressed that if anything were to happen to me I would like this played at my funeral......my poor husband can't even make it through the full song without being in tears !
