I was suprised to find Emerson ended Commodity this way. It seems so out of place but after contemplation I understand it to mean that to be a part of Nature, we must fuel our bodies and work, as Nature does. Thoughts?

Fed so that he may work ... there is a continuous engagement and interaction between human and nature and labor is the process by means of which that engagement reveals our continuity with the natural world. Recall what he says in other essays about labor and even the joy he took in tending a garden. Labor is a lesson in metaphysics.
